Tim Pawlenty, but he couldn't raise enough funds early on. He wasn't born with a silver spoon (or foot) in his mouth, so he could definitely appeal more to the middle instead of pissing them off.

Personally, I wouldn't vote for him, but I believe he would run a far more competent campaign. He's probably not tea-baggy enough for the far righties in charge of the Republican party though.

Perhaps Rick Perry would have been a good candidate.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ampaign-causing-poor-debate-performances.html

apparently he wasn't as absented minded as he seemed during the debates if the above article is accurate.

Perry flubbed it pretty badly, but he seems a lot more thoughtful than Romney, and comes off as a better person--or at least as a decent politician who can interact with a variety of people on a normal, natural level without coming off as insensitive or insulting.

My favorite "odd" debate moment was Romney extending his hand for a $10,000 wager over some fact or figure. Perry's look at that moment said "WTF, are you fucking crazy?" That was just... weird. (Especially coming from a supposedly devout Mormon.)

I would murder Newt before he had a chance to take office.
That dude is one step above Rush Limbaugh and Rush Limbaugh is pure evil.

Ron Paul would have been interesting, the only one I would have considered voting for anyway.

It was interesting though seeing Newt, the poster boy for 90's partisan politics and the originator of government shutdown brinksmanship looking moderate compared to the others.

Republicans need a moderate voice - I think Jeb Bush would have been a better candidate.

I can not think of anyone who could pass the GOP's base's muster and not look and sound like a raving wing nut crazy, a hypocrite, or both in the general election.

These are some of the problems Mr Romney is having.

What I am going to watch carefully is what the GOP will do if Mr Romney loses in November. Will they go larger or smaller tent?

I can see Ms Bachmann et al screaming something like "We lost because Mr Romney was not a TRUE conservative."

John Huntsman.

For the dems, Hillary would have been a far superior candidate than Obama.

2016? Not that it would EVER happen. Huntsman refused to sign that laughable Grover agreement so the republicans would never let him run for president I'm sure.... he can try again but he would fail again.

I doubt he will try again, though he would have been the best choice this time around. Many blue collar dems I know hate Obama for his efforts to destroy coal (I live in PA), and all of them liked John Huntsman and said they would have voted for him.

Romney losing would have nothing to do with being a true conservative or not. It would have everything to do with him lacking both likability and a vision.

Can't tell if serious....

You think I'm kidding - lol. If it weren't for his piss-poor brother's performance, I think Jeb would have a real chance. He ran Florida well, and in the face of everyone who ran this year (outside of Huntsman), he is a moderate.

It's unfortunate that he has to live with George's legacy.
