Check this out:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=104351

I wonder if ATI meant to release these to compete with 7950GX2 but got delayed (as usual eh)

Anyway, I DLed these and ran DOD-S... 91fps which is a 12-13% increase or so from the Cat 6.5s! Crazy, it's 4 FPS away from 7800GTX512 SLI in AT benchies and I was using 8xHQAF while they had 0xAF ! Anyway, those guys on XS are also getting a 500pt increase in 3DMark 06 with single and Xfire... (havent tried it myself) but anyway, I would check these drivers out.

I'm pretty sure I get a boost in BF2 as well. The link for the drivers is on that thread

WOW.

I re-ran the bench in DOD-S with the same settings used in the AT article.

In the review, 7800GTX 512SLI gets 95fps w/ 1600x1200, 4xAA

My XTX @ 700/900 at 1680x1050, 4xAA and texturing on HQ, all settings in the DOD-S on High, gets 93fps!!

WOW... 48 pixel shaders hello!

I've been running these for a day or two myself. Gained 200 points in 3dmark06, several frames in the FEAR timedemo, everything just seems a bit smoother...very happy with the performance increases. CCC seems to be sluggish for me though.

What are your clocks on that XT? That guy on XS gained 500pts on 3DMark06

The DOD-S performance is fking crazy, within 2fps of 7800GTX512 SLI

Who the hell is going to even consider buying two Geforce 7800GTX 512MBs in SLI? For one, I don't even think these GPUs are on the market, and secondly, from the benchmarks you're referring to, how much faster are the two GTXs over just one. If it's not much, then I'm not too excited, because we already knew the XTX performed better than one 7800GTX 512MB.

675/765 right now (at stock volts, through CCC Overdrive). I don't think ATI Tool works with drivers from 6.4 and onward, and I haven't really tried to go for higher yet.

These drivers look very promising, I need to give them a try later.

Is the smartshader feature still disabled though? It was inexplicably removed in 6.5 and I've been thinking of reverting back to 6.3 just for that. That fake HDR effect looked nice in a few old games.

I use it with 6.5 and it generally works fine. (the temperature monitor sometimes messes up, but it did that with 6.3 as well)

I've never had much success with ATI Tool, I've been using Rivatuner which seems to work rather well and is very stable, albeit not allowing voltage adjustment

It's not about buying 2 512gtxs, its the fact that one XTX at my clocks with these drivers performs within a couple frames of 512GTX in SLI (in DOD-S)

BTW, it's about a 13% increase over the 6.5s which is quite a lot man

I'm thinking of dropping in my old X800XL just to test these.

The thing I like about ATi driver support is how they constantly slip performance improvements into drivers even though it's unlikely mainstream reviewers will pick up on them, even in games that aren't actively benchmarked.

The users sure notice though.

would this performance increase affect the older? x800 levels cards. if so i might try out my first beta driver in a long time.

They are beta still though right? Any problems? So far it seems to be really good, but I'm hesitant to see if there is a catch (for now).

The official drivers will be here before the end of the month so that means these drivers are probably just waiting for WHQL certification.

Btw found this at Hardocp forums and it sure is interesting

In order to provide you with the ability to test the world?s fastest processor with world?s best dual graphics solution, ATI is making two special drivers available for press only. The first driver enables two ATI graphics cards to be installed and run in CrossFire mode on the Intel® 975X Express chipset with an Intel® Core? 2 Duo processor or Intel® Core? 2 Extreme Processor. All performance improvements found in this production candidate driver will be made available to the public the first week of June in Catalyst release version 6.6. We ask that you please test with the publicly available Catalyst 6.6 driver or the press version to ensure the best quality benchmarking experience possible, and deliver results that reflect what the public can expect.

The second driver unlocks the best image quality possible in a game today, delivering simultaneous HDR and AA in Oblivion like the now famous ?Chuck? patch. While the driver is not officially supported, we?re making it available to press to demonstrate the astounding gaming possible on Intel® Core? Duo processors using CrossFire graphics.

So... Ati + Intel partnership? I wanna see what CF x1900 are able to do with conroes now :Q

I think there is a general missunderstanding between using ATI tool and ATI tray tools. which are two different programs. ...
Try the latter.

True, the warning window pops up on installation. Also there is no WDM in the bundle.

See, that bolded part makes me think they meant for these to compete with the GX2 but got delayed somehow... but hey, if the 10-13% increase is more or less across the board, that would put the XTX nipping at the heals of the GX2 in many situations

What I would like to see, is an XTX with these drivers, both at stock and overclocked on air, compete with the GX2 at EQUAL image quality settings, none of this default lower quality for nvidia and higher quality for ATI... judging by the results with a mere XT on AT's benchies I think the results would be quite interesting
