More genius...

COURIC: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

PALIN: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land -- boundary that we have with -- Canada. [...]

COURIC: Explain to me why that enhances your foreign policy credentials.

PALIN: Well, it certainly does because our -- our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia --

COURIC: Have you ever been involved with any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

PALIN: We have trade missions back and forth. We -- we do -- it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where -- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is -- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to -- to our state.

Ok ok this is killing me, I must have foreign policy experience too! My department we have about 12 canadians on staff because when I drive to work I can see Canada(live in Detroit) And oh wait I worked with a doctor last night that just emigrated from Russia so I've got as much experience in foreign policy as Palin!

Yeesh. She couldnt talk her way out of a cardboard box.

Palin is hilarious. Considering the historically high chances of a VP becoming president, McCain voters will be essentially voting for President Ms. South Carolina in November.

But yeah, she does seem amazingly stupid, no wonder she named her kids shit like Trig, Trak, Piper etc.

I'm loving this. Remember a few weeks ago when all the Republicans were talking about what a great idea it was to pick Palin? I told them then that it was a catastrophic mistake, and to be honest I'm sort of proud of myself right now for being so right.

Watch this video

Why harp on this? Because it's importat for everyone to recognize her problems, and vote against that ticket for that reason alone, despite many others.

With her ideology being more radical and dangerous than her inability to say much that makes sense in interviews, it's a bad reflection on McCain's decision ability too.

All I can say is thank you for posting this, I needed a good laugh today and this did the trick.
Man oh man I can't wait until the next time she opens her mouth and inserts McSames foot... Then Great GrandPa McSame will try to run to the rescue.........

I don't think even they are that stupid. I haven't seen one them in here yet. I respect Prof John and his positions, but I don't see how even HE could explain this away.

How can you be happy at a time like this? She MAY win and that could be a disaster for our country. Look at Bush.

Sarah Palin's interests are hunting, snowmobiling, fishing, having kids and GOD with a side of brutal clawing, vicious ambition. As a result she has probably skipped past the furrin news section in the news-paper, hell... probably only read the local Alaska papers her entire life. International relations is not a subject you can cram, you need to absorb it, read widely, travel, etc. Economics is pretty well the same - cramming won't get you there; it may teach you a few catch phrases, but it does not give you a deep understanding.

What this means is that in small town America, you have to be seriously interested in the outside world, you have to make a real effort to find out things, to actually know anything about the rest of the world of substance and depth. Teenagers in countries like Ireland tend to know more about the outside world than the typical US politician. (That said, there are a lot of people in Europe who have a strange and superficial understanding of the United States.)

I realize that everyone here is focussing on Palin's foreign policy muddle, but I'm still smarting from the slap-in-the-face comment she made about passports. I don't know about anyone else here, but my parents never sent me backpacking around the world. I realize that many Americans never travel out of the U.S., but many travel within it, and whether you're headed to 6 Flags or Disney, it costs money. Palin's suggestion that only spoiled children get passports and travel is ridiculous.

I do not conclude that Sarah Palin is dumb but rather that she is trying to pretend to know and understand stuff she simply did not know anything about until late August 2008 and fundamentally is not interested in. A bit like George W Bush.

McCain is placing his bet on the stupidity of the American public, and the fact that the polls are so close shows that there may have been some reason to play that card. You can't keep changing the subject and think that folks aren't going to connect the dots at some point. People are figuring it out, and trotting out the Fembot wind-up doll to spout "John McCain is a maverick! I can see Russia from my house! You can't blink!" has got to be really wearing thin.

The problem is that this won't really resonate with the people who support her. To them, any blame for making her look foolish is placed squarely at the feet of the *elite* media, who obviously are trying to *mock* her.

If you ask people why they like her it has nothing to do with substantive issues, it's her *values* or that she's a *working mom*.

None of those attributes or the other side show issues are in any way diminished by her readily apparent grasp of even the most mundane issues.

As much as this pains me to say this, she is an unknown quantity. I will never vote for her and dislike her politics, But it is hard to say how well she will govern with so little to go on. if she were to gain the Presidency I'm willing to give her the benefit of a doubt until she proves otherwise.

COURIC: Why isn?t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? Allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy? Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: That?s why I say, I like ever American I?m speaking with were ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the tax payers looking to bailout.

But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy? Helping the ? Oh, it?s got to be about job creation too. Shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americas. A

And trade we?ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive scary thing. But 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We?ve got to look at that as more opportunity. ALl those things under the umbrella of job creation.

This bailout is a part of that.

Funny. She doesn't look Gibberish.

It's pretty much a mixture of shadenfreude and self congratulation at being right. I honestly think at this point, barring some huge mistake by Obama she can't win. The Republican party is self destructing in front of our eyes.

The funny thing is that she wasn't even asking her tough questions, she's just that bad.

OMG. That was absolutely brutal. Her answers totally remind me of that Miss Teen America contestant who couldn't answer why 1/5th of Americans couldn't find the US on a map.

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because?. some.. people out there? in our nation?.. don?t have maps and I believe that our education, like such as in South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should.. uh?.our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S?.. er, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our children?.. "

Yah know she might be really bright but she is just in way over her head. A few terms in the House and a few in the Senate and she might be able to carry that national conservative fundie flag with some level of intelligence.

Right now she comes off as Miss South Carolina Teen USA.

No kidding! The parallels are amazing! Not surprising that Palin herself is a former beauty pageant winner ... she fits right in with the pretty but tragically stupid.

Yeah but you sick bastards thought Abu Ghraib was a knee slapper.

They say the memory is first to go red.
No one thought abu Ghraib was a knee slapper. May be Savage??? but he is a tool anyway.
Club Gitmo was the knee slapper you may be thinking of.

There's a video and transcript in the link but she struggled a lot in the interview and seems to have only memorized a couple of answers. No wonder they don't want more questionings and want to delay the debates.

Part I
http://www.politico.com/blogs/.../Palin_and_Couric.html

Part II

You guys are hilarious.

Lets see now, she furnished a relevant example for Cutie Couric's question. (The 2005 ref)
And then because she has not memorized 25 years of McCains voting record your giddy with yourselves.

How is it you don't find the Gaffmasters comments even more entertaining?
I especially like the recent one where he stated FDR appeared on the television to inform people during the depression in 1929.
Forget the fact that Hoover was President and Televison wasn't around yet.
Biden is a laugh a minute if he does get into office, I can just imagine the material he will provide for conservative talk radio. They'll have em rolling in the aisles.
If Biden was sitting there he would have known how to answer Courics questions. End of story.

Palin can't. Now granted, I sincerely think she is trying...what else would she be doing over the last month? she is trying to learn this stuff Im sure.

But the leap she is taking from Mayor to Gov and now to VP candidate is just too big. She is allowing it to fvck with her head.

And another thing. I heard this on the radio earlier and I agree with it somewhat. Before, as a politican she only had to rely on herself and her wit. Now, I am sure she has 15 different people telling her what to say and what not to say. Its just simply a very difficult thing to do.

Now I might be making excuses for her and I really don't want to. What I really want to stress though is that THIS IS THE PERSON MCCAIN SAYS IS READY TO BE PRESIDENT.

and she is CLEARLY NOT.
