I have successfully loaded the 6M POI... thanks. Do you know if there are maps available for Mexico to use with the 3225?

Timekeeper, You seem to be the resident expert on installing the 6.1 million poi's into a Magellan 3225. (A few questions please... I'm new to all this and using my son's computer here in FL while he's home in NJ. I'm not a computer genius but can follow some easy directions if detailed. Can the POI Manager that came with my new 3225 download the 6.1 mill poi's onto the 3225? What role would a 2g Sandisk SD card play in trying to download the 6.1 mill poi's. I'm a little hesitant about trying this as I don't want to blow out the 3225. Any advice from any knowledgeable member would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks...Timekeeper...I just got mine at Costco.com $ 171(3225 tax & shipping)...just follow Timekeeper instruction and it working great. I do recommend the 3225...due to 1.price($150) and 2.most accessories include(no case) in package. The 3225 have enough memory to hold 6.1 mill. POI so you don't need sd card. Need software....CNET.com for free trial.

I am having trouble with the password for unpacking the .rar files. I have downloaded a second copy and used both winrar and 7-up. They don't like activerandomkindness (all lowercase). Reply "wrong password.

Any help would be appreciated. Life was simpler with DOS 3.11.

Thanks in advance.

Did you have both downloaded files in the same folder and with the same name (unchanged) as downloaded? It took me a few tries too since I tend to modify the names of files when I download them.

I used unrar(command line). One file is created from the two parts. You only need to reference the first file.

Both files were in the same folder with their original names, and I only referenced the first one. Every time I get the message" data error in encrypted file US48_POI.POU Wrong Password?" no matter which extraction program I use (I have used three different ones.

Any more suggestions or another way to get the file that Timekeeper so generously posted?

That is what I have been using, and just to be sure, I cut and pasted your activerandomkindness and still got "Wrong Password".

Sigh!

Timekeeper-
First off, I want to thank you for the files, and I do appreciate your effort.

However, I need to ask, where exactly did you get these POIs from? The reason I ask is that there are several listed in your file that have been gone for more than 5 years! For example, when searching for Electronics stores, and expecting to see the Best Buy that's been in town for almost 7 years, that was not listed, while a WIZ store was listed and that's been closed for at least 6 years.

Is there an easy way to update the POIs? Thanks for the help!

Please tell me what your file size was before and after. I have no reference what mine was before. Right now it's a little over a gig and I don't know if I have even loaded it yet.

I just purchased the 3225 model at Costco for $149, which includes a $50 rebate until the end of March. Normally this is $199 at Costco. A great buy for the features this has. I followed the instructions to download the 6 million POI's and it seemed to have worked. The new file that I loaded into the unit shows 193MB and the original file had 41MB. It took me a while to figure out how to get the whole thing working but it did eventually work. Just a tip - when you go to the first link http://rapidshare.com/files/71...S48_POI.part1.rar.html, or the second link, choose the Free download. After the first download, if you try to run the second Free download, it will make you wait 99 minutes unless you pay the equivalent of 4.50 euros. Good luck.

After doing this now I find that when I go to "Home Improvement" It says no POI'S can be found. I have checked "Home Improvement" under options.

still nothing. I guess you have to no more about pc's . The only way I will be able to pull this is if someone go's through it with me step by step. Do you take phone calls?

Sorry. I don't take phone calls. If still "nothing" after following steps, then there is really nothing more I can do, even on the phone.

1. download "winrar", and install it in your PC

2. download both rar files, and put both file in same folder.

3. double click one of the rar file you downloaded, and it will start unzip process.

4. after unzip is done you will get one big file that is almost 200mb.

5. go back to first page and follow installation procedure.
