Sorry to inform you, but 3200 does not have much free available space for this hack.
It's got only 8MB of free space!

I am also stuck with 3200 with having so less POIs (just got it yesterday). I should have got 3210 instead from Dell at $30 more ($200). Much more POIs, Canada Maps and AAA features!

After reading this I hopped on Costco.com to see if the sale price on the 3225 was still good and noticed this

This item is covered by Costco's guarantee to refund your purchase price if you are not completely satisfied. Costco's guarantee applies, even though this item may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty, because Costco is not an "authorized" dealer of the merchandise.

I thought the 3225 was unique to Costco yet they state they are not an authorized dealer? What the...?

Dunnomuch, it just means if you have any problems that the manufacturer will not warranty it since it is not a regular product for them. That's why Costco will warranty any problems 100% with their amazing forever return policy. HTH.

Actually they don't say for sure the manufacturer will not honor the warranty but it seems odd that a retailer carrying an exclusive model would even say that.

I thought Costco modified their return policy to 6 months a while ago. I bought a laptop from them a couple of years ago and was told that people abused the return policy so much they had to modify it.

Don't forget the 3M "foam disc" for those of use who are pretty blind (like me !!) that allows mounting of the pedestal to the dash instead of windshield!!

1. Hook up the 3225 GPS to your PC with the cable that was provided.
2. Make a backup copy of the US48_POI.POI (located in the MAP directory of the 3225 GPS)
3. Download the two .rar files (do not change the names, make sure both files are in the same directory).
4. If you don't already have the Winrar software (which will decompress the rar files) locate and download a free copy off the internet.
5. Once you have Winrar installed on your PC, locate and double-click on the part1 rar file that you previously downloaded. You will be prompted for a password. Enter: activerandomkindness
6. Once you have entered the password, Winrar works its magic and decompesses BOTH the part1 and part2 files into a single file called US48_POI.POI. You will be prompted to choose a location for this new file. (I just put it in a separate directory on my PC)
7. Copy the new US48_POI.POI file over to the GPS (make sure to place the file in the MAP directory so that it will overwrite the existing US48_POI.POI file).
8. That should do it. (You may need to turn the 3225 GPS off and then back on again to see the new POIs)

Good luck!

Was it necessary for you to add any memory to the 3225...or did it fit as stock???

I'm not sure internal memory can be added to these. The 3225 has over 800MB free even after the "update". As someone mentioned in an earlier post, the 3200 has < 10MB free from the factory. Since it does not come with a data cable and the 3225 does, it appears that it was designed for minimal updating. The 3200 has a little under 1GB accessible (not available) while the 3225 has a little < 2GB.

I imagine the 3200 could accomodate a map update if it weren't much larger than what it replaced. The 3225 also adds Canada and Alaska maps in addition to the lower 48, Hawaii and Puerto Rico that the 3200 includes.

Password must be in lowercase. If you copied and pasted the lowercase password from the first page of this thread, it was missing a letter which might be why you are having problems. Try copying and pasting this:

I didn't have to add any memory to the 3225 -- although I'm not sure if you can even if you wanted to.

I have bought a Magellan Maestro 3225 from my local Costco Store the day before yesterday. I have just opened it up this morning and found the USB data cable was missing from the package. Should I return the whole thing to my local Costco and repurchase another one?

Has the same experience happened to anyone else here? What should I do now? Any suggestion is welcome.

The cable is not proprietary. It is a standard USB to mini USB cable. I thought it was odd that the cable was taped to the package in a zip lock bag and not within the factory packaging (which was a pain to deal with).

Costco is of course easy to deal with for returns but the Magellan packaging for the 3225 is not. I used both a pocket knife and scissors. For those who don't know it is not in a box like the Maestro 3200 and other models sold elsewhere.

If you return it to the store make sure you tell them you do not want a refund but an exchange since you may pay $20 more to repurchase.

AAA tourbook is totally different application.
Updating to 6 million POI will NOT have AAA tourbook.
Unfortunately, hacking AAA tourbook might not be so "legal".

Sorry,

Is the upgraded CANADA_POI.poi available also for the 3225 ? the 3225 CANADA_POI.poi is about 17MB. Seems to me that to get the full 6M poi we need all .poi file ? is this correct ?

Thanks for this thread. Good stuff. I unrared the two files but my combined file size is 188 MB (197,945,228) bytes after doing a right click on the file and properties. Is this the right size? I see in the first post the file is 200 MB
