It's not that demo is *just* spamming - honestly, Demo is probably the most overpowered class in the game in typical settings, if played well. Traps, good damage, the only real indirect fire in the game, huge mobility, and he's nowhere near as incompetent at close range as he should be to balance that out.

Unfortunately, the reality is that on typical settings, the demo can just spam and still be very effective. A very badly played demo on a 32 man map can get lots of kill just spamming, and it gets aggravating.

Demo is just too easy to kill people with. It takes little skill and you can just spam with the pipe bombs which is why you see so many people use them plus the stickies are horribly overpowered as well. Soldier needs all the new weapons it can get.

I thought soldier would be even further ahead... I think the demo is more poorly suited to the task of "kill as many of x class as possible". One of his big jobs in actually winning is dealing with engineer guns/etc and defending / setting up traps. And with those, who knows what you'll kill. Soldier can more easily see a demo and just decide to gun for it.

I don't think people need any more reason to play soldier, as I've seen online and in this poll he's clearly more popular. Give demo the extra item and give people more reason to play him.

Soldier most definitely. Very straightforward, but capable of neat tricks. I love juggling someone so that they go straight up and then down into another rocket.

Most server's I'm joining are filled with soldiers and demos. It kinda sucks playing cause it's just constant demo spam.

History repeats itself, but it's understandable. When the Medic update was released, we mostly saw Medics around. When the Pyro update was released it was the worst Spy's nightmare back then, flames left and right, everywhere you went to, Pyros would be waiting for you. The same thing happened with the Heavy, and then the Scout, the Spy and Sniper, and when the Engineer received the small updates for the teleporters and the dispenser (levels) their numbers augmented, unless the server had class restriction rules.

I must say however that between all the updates causing one class to be more present than others it has to be the Scout one that really pissed me off, I'd rather have the current "full of Soldier and Demoman" situation along with the lovely random crits than having to deal with hordes of annoying Scouts (I hate them with a burning passion).

This is why I hope the soldier wins. But I'll bet that extra weapon won't be that useful.

I didnt know there was a war between just those two. I like the demo more myself, because a black scottish cyclops is just an awesome concept.

If it's so easy to kill with a demo why is the soldier lead now up to 219k? lol

Its just brutal with as many Demos that play the game right now. Stickies everywhere.

I played Demo alot when I first started. Its still the class with my most play time, although I only play it about 25% of the time.. as duty calls. I am a class jumper.. I try and pick the class that I feel the team really needs. If theres no spy checking I pick Pyro...no teles, I pick eng, etc. Otherwise I've been picking and trying to get better at soldier.

Because many of the experienced and good players in tf2 decided a demo man with any updates at all will be even more overpowered, let alone giving the forth weapon to them, so many players in the community are playing soldier only to help the cause.

The demo man really needs no weapons updates. All the competitive and skilled players in TF2 are somewhat worried valve is going to screw the game over with this update. We shall wait and see. I know if he must have a weapon update, he definitely doesnt need a "forth" weapon. I hope valve doesnt b0rk this up.

The last thing we need is the demo to be stronger.

The lowest common denominator in this game is probably making the difference even if all the "experienced and good players" banded together "to help the cause."

Yes. All the good and experienced players have decided that the demo needs no help, so they're playing soldier. Yeah, that makes sense.

You're from NY, aren't you?

I played mostly soldier during the weekend but I don't think I even broke even. Though I did have one crit rocket on a cart that killed 3 demos. Sentries also took a beating in the games since there would be 4 or 5 soldiers firing rockets at them.

I'm surprised so many people think demo is overpowered. Yes if you have no fps skills whatsoever you can do ok with demoman but not with soldier. Spamming stickies and pipes will only get you so far though, and to do more than spam with demo takes a LOT of skill. I would say for n00bs, demo>soldier. For average players, soldier>demo. For experts they are even. Valves own stats have them very close with soldier having a slight lead.

I'd think the 'experienced' and 'competitive' TF2 gamers would tire of spouting the same doom and gloom bullshit every time an update to this game is released.

It seems that the experience gained from competitive TF2 just makes you a whiny bitch.

So, it took Valve this long to release this update b/c it needed to be coded and not play-tested?

For the most part, I still play heavy because the ATG Badwater server actually has class limits. Nothing better than mowing soldiers and demos down.

New Demo Weapons Info!! Two of the upcoming three

The Eyelander
The Eyelander holds to a principle all one-eyed Scotsmen with no depth perception have known for years: you don’t kill a man by mucking about with rifles, arrows, rocks, or other long-distance rubbish. You kill him by grabbing the biggest bloody sword you can find, running up nice and close to him, and chopping the dumb bastard’s head off.

Made with pattern-welded Damascus steel, this melee-slot weapon offers a guaranteed decapitation with every killing blow. Unfortunately, because it's haunted, it will suck away some of your soul: expect a decrease in your max health at the outset. However, once the blade feeds on neck, you’ll receive a boost in max health and speed. With each new protesting head you cleave (up to four), you’ll get healthier and faster.

The Eyelander will not deal critical hits unless used in conjunction with the Chargin’ Targe’s charge ability.

The Charin' Targe
The Chargin’ Targe solves a centuries-old Scottish riddle, which is that shields exist. True, the shield might block the occasional sword blow. However, they are essentially weapons to be used for hiding behind, and this is a concept the average Scotsman does not understand. “If I were to pick up this cowering-plate, I would have to put down my second sword,” a Scotsman thinks. “And surely that is madness.” The Chargin’ Targe solves this riddle by turning the useless shield into a deadly weapon you can run at people with and then bludgeon to death.

The targe replaces your tried-and-true sticky bomb launcher, but offers some unique capabilities in return, especially when used with the Eyelander. Just equipping the Chargin’ Targe provides automatic +50% fire damage resistance and +65% blast damage resistance. But the Chargin’ Targe’s main perk lies in its name. Alt-firing will hurtle you toward an enemy at a punishingly damaging high speed (far faster than a Scout can manage).

Charging also boosts the lethality of your melee weapon. Land a melee hit during a medium length charge and you'll be guaranteed a mini-crit. Land a hit during a long distance charge, and your victim will receive devastating full crit damage.
