I disagree, I was still on an Phenom II 955 until 3 years ago and i had no problems playing games and a Phenom 2 was never the leader in benchmarks when it came out. You can keep overpaying for Intel or you can get a solid Ryzen system which may not be the fastest at games. I will stick with Ryzen unless it becomes a bulldozer compared to Intel.
I have a minimum level of performance I accept. In recent history the r5 is the first processor from amd to do this.
This is my recommended processor.
I wouldn't buy it, I'd always get an i7, but that's my base recommendation is the r5. Once people want more.... Well there clearly is the i7.
I personally I have no interest in zen for a main PC until it's the single thread crown. And I'm personally done with the amd good enough thing.
It's what I spec for people, because I'm extremely budget conscious and given the US savings data statistics, I don't like to spec anything more than what I think will be good for today as well as have longevity.
The i7 was honestly the best value processor our there once you count the longevity of the processor.
That's now currently replaced by the r5, and zen 2 will be the real thing that matters. Nothing else really is interesting cpu wise. It's can amd top zen with a good zen 2? If not we know how this story goes.
Business wise, I don't think amd has what it takes to sustain this.
