1080 is a great GPU. What monitor are you using?

Everything except my mouse and keyboard will be new, so I'll probably go with something like the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q. I'll keep a Dell 2412 as a secondary display.

I've been waiting for the 6-core chip since the TR heatsink made my 4790k system unsuitable for comparing PSU's and heatsinks. I hope it will OC into the 150's, like my 4790k did. Since I'll be using the iGPU, I don't have to worry about the PCIe lanes. since the old MB went to my daughter with the 4790k, I don't worry about getting a new MB. It's hard to wait.

I might, but in all probability, will just ride out my 4770K a little longer,
especially given the crazy a*s RAM prices now
(makes my 32GB 2133L seem like a bargain in comparison)

That and the deliberate cash grab that is Z370,
aka Z270, now Covfefelake compatible!

I wont be buying anything soon due to my i5-4670 being good enough that I couldn't justify doing it. Even if I was I would looking at the Ryzen 5 and 7 CPUs as well.

Anyone know what the sweet spot would be for latency and speed for DDR4 memory to pair with a i7-8700K, primarily for gaming? Assuming their aren't any new platform teething issues, of course.

Pricing is crazier than before with supply/demand issues, so I'm wondering maybe if I should set up some deal alerts now before Coffee Lake arrives.

I just upgraded my video card to a 1080 Ti to pair with my 4790K. Don't see the point of wasting any more money on my main rig. However, I am slowly putting together a dual Skylake Xeon server. That's 20 cores/40 threads and 96 PCIe lanes. I will have no use for this CL chip.

Yup Couldn't stay away, especially with some build(s) planned (I'm "Meliodas" btw, used that temporarily until I recovered my account login).
Interesting, do you keep track of your other alts, also Nanatsu no Taizai fan?

Probably skipping for now. Only real upgrades I would consider would be better cooling / case for my 5930k system. Or the next gen video cards possibly, but those are a way off.

I'm looking forward to the i3-8100. If its $120, then surely it will have higher per thrread performance than ryzen 1200/1300x and have a igpu as well. It just makes the Ryzen 3 series look poor value.

It depends on 3 things. How high clocks 35W TDP CPUs will have, price of them, and whether it would be possible to lower the TDP to 35W of Core i5 8400.

Can you guys give me any link about possibility of lowering TDP for any Intel CPU? It would be very informative for me.

Keep in mind we are talking about 8xxx here. I got my 4790k in 2014, my 4770k in 2013. The Lynnfield i7 860 that preceded them was gotten in 2009. Those years sound unremarkable -- but it is 2017 now and though these machines have stood up well, they are getting on. I think about that because my friend Jerry died yesterday. Old is old.

Here's a screenshot from a Z270 motherboard review.

In the second group of settings you can see those in charge of configuring short term power usage, long term power usage, as well as the max current limit. Together with the multiplier settings this makes just about any configuration possible, frequency is dynamically adjusted based on multiplier settings and power limits.

A 1080 looks to be the best purchase for me, unless 1070's come way down in price.

Yeah, I picked up my 1070 just as prices started to rise. I was going to just get a 1060, but demand was way too high as was pricing. The 1080 is a great especially if you are at 1440p.

We will have to wait for real results, but higher clocks have been best for gaming in the Skylake uarch line.

I think I'm in, depending on price and availability. The lack of PCIe lanes won't really affect me, oddly enough, I have always liked the Intel mainstream platform even though they change sockets too often for my tastes. The plan is to find a mobo in the sweet spot of having the right feature set while not being too expensive, since it likely won't be seeing an upgrade.

I will buy Coffeelake as soon as possible, i7-8700k of course. This is the fastest CPU for my needs.
