PS: Just imagine how bloated the Q1 2018 boards will be since they're meant to support 8 core chips launched later... that most buyers won't even upgrade to.

Are the 6 core chips true 6 core or 8 core rejects?

Z370 BIOS already has support for 8 cores and up to DDR4-8400, yes 8400.

That's actually... very intriguing! Possibly, Intel is now making an 8-core mainstream consumer die, and early fabbing results in only six working cores? I like the theory. Anyone want to de-lid? Any die shots? Let's compare them.

I cannot believe that there are those who are complaining about board compatibility for 20 odd pages! If you're not happy with that fact buy something else. There are far more important things in life and this certainly won't kill you, jeez.

I'm going to be selling a USB 3.0 multiadapter that will allow you to use a Gen8 CPU in any Gen7 board.

For sure! I'm liking the 5th availability!!

I might be waiting till Black Friday to upgrade, but I'd still itching to see the reviews on Coffee Lake. Sadly it sounds like prices will be high at the get go, and RAM prices have gone insane (damn smartphones switching to LPDDR4 @#$%^).

intel has announced official prices, specs and turbo clocks:

https://www.anandtech.com/show/1186...ation-coffee-lake-hex-core-desktop-processors

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/09/intel-coffee-lake-price-specs-release-date/

The 8700 non-K looks very attractive to me since I'm not interested in overclocking:

Turbo clock = 4.6 GHz, vs. 4.5 GHz for the 7700K, only 100 MHz less than the 8700K . Price per 1,000 is the same, $56 less than the 8700K. TDP is 65 watts!

That should mean no need to delid, and a 120mm air cooler should run silent at idle, quiet under load.

I'm going to wait for PCI Express 4 at the very least, and possibly PCI Express 5 and DDR5 before I upgrade. I will say things are getting exciting, after what seems like years of stagnation. With AMD finally providing some competition, and the next iterations of PCI Express and DDR on the way, we have 8 core mainstream processors right around the corner, video card technology (Nvidia Volta) that is finally making big leaps that will allow 4K gaming to be done smoothly and advance graphics capabilities by larger margins so we can finally get some games that really blow away Crysis, assuming developers bother.. it seems like kids these days like my nephews are perfectly content with the graphics of games like minecraft, showing me how "great" the game looks. lol I agree gameplay trumps graphics but it would be nice to have both. I wouldn't mind some decent story based shooters again like Half Life 2, Bioshock, and FEAR.

Right now I'm rocking a 2600K @ 4.5 and see no reason to upgrade yet, though I admit I'm getting tempted. I'll at least wait for PCI Express 4, and maybe just upgrade the video card from my 970 to a 2080 next year.. we'll see where the tech is at that point.

I just upgraded my TV to an LG 65 inch OLED and threw in a new receiver and 4 ceiling speakers for a 5.1.4 setup, so a new computer build I am itching for I will admit. Hopefully more games support atmos or DTS-X in the future.

This is the CPU designed to drive you, and me, off of Gulftown. Fine chip it was, but it's time has sadly passed. Having a modern motherboard/IO should be the bomb!

I'm excited! Looking back at prior comments on this thread the last few days, it's also interesting that while I have been on LGA1366 I was also able to drop in a new CPU. Started with an i7-920, 18 months later popped in a i7-970. 50% core/thread upgrade, die shrink, and higher clocks - without touching any other parts. It was pretty awesome! I don't rebuild very often, so I do admit I pay attention to this feature and have given serious consideration to Ryzen as a result.

I wouldn't mind some decent story based shooters again like Half Life 2, Bioshock, and FEAR.

I know this is off-topic, but had to chime in because I love those games, particularly F.E.A.R. Love my single-player story-driven games... I just replayed Bioshock Remastered, it's looking dated on my 1080ti+PG279q

A 6 core at those frequencies with an IGP built in at 65W is impressive. A pity we cannot do a sneaky BLCK overclock on the non-K's anymore.

Those prices are 1k unit prices, not retail, be aware of that.

Over time though prices usually settle at the 1k unit price due to competition, but not initially. Kinda annoying to have a pre-launch and now a paper launch. I want to see reviews and, especially, overclocking!!

True. I can't wait that long though so I can only hope for a decent launch price.

Perhaps rename this thread title and make it the official coffee lake thread?

We should start a new thread specifically for announcements and reviews, where the OP will edit the first post. I can do that if no one else volunteers.

Right, but the 1K price of 8700 non-K is $303. And I misread the chart, that matches the launch price of the 7700 non-K, the K was $339.

Hopefully everyone will be scrambling for Ks, leaving a good supply of non-Ks at less inflated prices for me

It's fair to have reviews there as well, because all the major leaks regarding Intel products this year came from the current thread and we've been discussing these products for months. Coffee Lake reviews will be added to the OP as soon as the NDA lifts. I suggest creating an owners thread for post-launch discussion, including build questions.

The 8700K is looking pretty attractive. I saw a price of $360 and I got kind of excited, but then realized it will cost more. This chip will be great, but realizing there's an 8 core right around the corner kind of puts me off from trading up to this CPU. I do feel like my 6800K is a total POS compared to this though, overclocked to the max just to get close to the stock frequency of the 8700K. Its going to be a great gaming chip. I'd love some 8 core 10nm awesomeness next year though. Oh man that would be a delicious upgrade.

Finally 6 and 8 core in the mainstream. Took long enough.

Well, we don’t know when the 8 core chip drops yet or even whether it is 14nm++ or 10nm+ for sure yet. We are still waiting. Intel probably isn’t going to say with certainty because it doesn’t want to lose hexacore sales.
