I'd just like to say how cool it is that (mostly) everyone in this thread has been respectful of each other, even in disagreement. It's a real testimony to your faith(s). I feel like I've learned quite a bit about other , I guess variations , of Christianity from what I'm used to.

Thanks, engineereeyore for your rational explanations of your faith. And to everyone who engaged him respectfully.

Way to spread the love man. All I gotta say is, "Love God. Love people. Nothing else matters." From those two things all else will come. You'll do the will of God because of your love for Him, you will be able to show the love of Christ through your life. That's what we're here to do right? Spread the word. The Holy Spirit will take care of the rest.

Hey. I'm a Southern Baptist second, Christian first, and thought I'd share some stuff. So far, Catholics are Christians. "Christian" means "little Christ," so, all people who believe in Christ and strive to be like Him are, in fact, Christians. The link to atheism is misinformed. I only read the first bit, I am in school. Catholic actions do in no way account for God. God can never be judged by His Creation by His Creation's acts, think about it. Also, just because a Christian prays, doesn't mean that God will answer to the Christian's liking. Who would God be if He granted every request at that time; He is above our thinking, and beyond our timetable (actaully not in it). We are given the choice of right and wrong, and though we as Christians are given the way towards righteousness, we are not exempt from sin, at all. In fact, when you think anout it, we are tempted way more than non-Christians; they have no source of righteousness. That being said, God was smart enough to give everyone a conscience so that even if one does not believe in Him, they still can distinguish right from wrong. The difference between them and Christians is that they aren't accountable to God, but then again, all of God's laws are absolute, and universal. They apply equally to everybody, no matter if they are ignored or followed.

Nice post. Most of my family are southern baptist or pentecostal, being I'm from Louisiana. Question though. Your "not in our timeline" comment intrigued me. Could you explain that and what exactly it means?

Thanks! I love to talk about religion and understand others beliefs and how they came to them. Hate "Bible-bashing", so I always try to keep things civil.

I was baptized Catholic but am not religious. So I guess not.

But I am a nice person which a lot of people seem to think is synonymous with being nice. It isn't.

Heaven and Hell are what make people christian. When you believe that you will be tortured for eternity if you don't comply it is a strong motivator.

this is also why you find many hypocrits, because christianity is not about getting a get out of hell free card....as you so naively perceive it.

No but according to christianity those who are not christian are garenteed a spot in hell.

The reason is that everyone, including Christians (sometimes especially Christians, that is what makes the actual gift so undeserving), deserve nothing but eternal seperation from G-d. To be in G-d's presence you must be blameless, without fault. None of us are. That is the premise. The Law and Sin is what seperates us from God. Since God is both Just and Merciful, he cannot just ignore the Law.

Is a judge just if he lets a proven criminal go free without giving the criminal what he deserves? Would a judge be just if let a rapists go 'scott free' because he pitied and loved the person who raped? No, of course not. Would it be just if another rapist offered to take the punishment instead. No, of course not. But if someone who did not commit a criminal act, like the Judge Himself, willingly took the rapists place, would the justice be done.

Therefore, G-d demenstrated His love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He gave us the ability to be present before Him blameless because another person who was blameless took our place.

god doesnt care about tribal ppl who have never heard of christ or the bible. lots of just and mercy there eh?

Just being christian and a good person doesnt get you into heaven, being saved does. WHEN YOU DECIDE TO CONFESS TO GOD THAT YOU ARE A SINNER AND BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS TO FORGIVE YOUR SINS, you will be saved. You dont even have to go to church to do it, but if you dont let it make a difference in your life, then it was never a true salvation in the first place.

Very true very true. Just make sure you know which Jesus you follow(by that I mean what and who Jesus is to you...make sure you are sure about it as a false Jesus is of little use). Church will not get you into heaven(like something earned). It is by grace you have been saved, thru faith.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith?and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God?not by works, so that no one can boast."Eph 2:8-9

1 cor 11:3-4 (different Jesus and gospel)
Titus 2:13

Just clarifying my position.

And I appreciate all who i have been talking to. I do not agree with your positions and have personal views on what you believe BUT you have been mroe than respectful to me and my views and for that i thank you. I hope you won't be offending if I say I will pray for you.

i agree with everyone else here. It is refreshing to see a religion thread on here that hasn't been turned into a bashing thread from both sides.

Thanks !!!

What I don't understand is how we can be such an advance society yet, have so many people worshiping invisible beings.

Really god is like Santa Clause for adults.
