To summarise, we're given the choice. To live with the lifegiver. Or without.
hell, gaol, jail, etc was the old hebrew term denoting the "burning dump outside the city walls" where all refuse was thrown.
to choose the latter results in your final eternal demise. just becuase the "smoke of their torment rises forever" doesnt mean an actual eternal fire.
And I dont think my loving god could burn the ones who reject him forever. he simply allows those not wanting to live with him...to live without. And life without the penultimate source of life...is death. Or so methinks, if you ascribe to the the commonly held christian view. too many fundamentals (we are all anthropomorhic) apply their own view, feelings, to interpretation and disposition re; wrath of god. Its their own creation, holding their own biases, vengeance, retribution. And doesnt take into account longsuffering mercy, payment of the penalty by another, and assumes to know the mind of god. A creator god couldnt destroy his creation, instead wants to save all. there are some who refuse, and he allows all to chose own destiny.
