Unfortunately, yes. Ivy Bridge will not get six-core CPU support. To get six and eight-core CPU support you need Sandy Bridge-E and Ivy Bridge-E, respectively. Sandy Bridge-E probably won't support PCIe 3.0 and will have less SATA ports than originally intended, so if you're thinking of going that route I recommend waiting for Ivy Bridge-E instead.
well that sucks! what about the 2600k? does hyperthreading really help in encoding videos and desktop multitasking? Thanks for all the info btw.
