I called the one near me again Friday and they still only had (2) 2600k. I didn't ask them about the other cpus. Sunday when I wake up I'll see if Newegg has them up and at a good price. How could they only ship them 2.

The 2500k seems to be the best bang for the buck, but I'm still sporting an AMD 550E unlocked to 4 cores and this isnt going to be even worth it yet I don't think. Even people with the first conroe core C2D chips (still using my E4300 in my media center) are on the cusp of whether this is worth it or not.

I think that someone else here indicated that the in-store pickup service doesn't apply to promotional items, which this deal may fall under.

I don't know what they're supposed to do, but I was just at the KC store and the guy who helped me, reserved a 2500K and UD3 for me for pickup tomorrow. Guess I'll find out tomorrow if it worked.

You'd think, but I was told the KC store only has 11 2500K's.

My MC is only 15 minutes away so I can drive there any time. I don't like standing in line for most things, so I'll just wait to see the user reviews here at AT (already read the online ones). Then I'll be able to decide on the mobo everyone likes mostly and I'll go from there. Can't wait......the 2600k will be a good upgrade from my C2D 8500, although I still really, really like my current setup.

You're stating an awful lot of opinions as fact. Such is your right, but allow me to point out a couple things as well:
Why the Captain Killjoy routine? No one here is getting that excited dude, relax. We know it's just a computer chip, thanks.
Slight upgrade for people with C2D? Uh...no. Unless all you use your computer for is web surfing and games from 2003, you are wrong about BOTH processors (E4300? really?)

Nah, we get along great. Biggest concern would be that she would want to get a 2600K for herself and "allow" me to get a 2500K.

Micro Center has the cpus and mobo online. Check your local MC for inventory(online). I did the in store pickup online. We will see how that goes. Each store seems to not have a lot of 2600k.

I'm willing to do hexcore AMD even though its slower, or an i2500k. But the AMD prices have to be much cheaper (50&#37. If I can see some really great Thuban deals, I'll go for that...otherwise, I'll pick up an i2500k when I don't have to deal with an army of nerds trying to get ahold of the latest tech*

Lol. The funny thing is, I just ordered it online from them instead. They charge you like an extra $7 in tax (80% on shipping? wtf? whatever):

In store:
179 + 6 = 186

Online (2 day)
179 + 9 + 13 = 202

uhhh. Anyway, for 10-15 in gas and 2 + hours in driving (on potentially crappy roads) I'll sleep in, thanks. Mobo won't be here for another 3-4 days anyway.

edit: and now I find out that MC does indeed have the mobo I ordered on NE. Gambled and lost there. $5 more, but I could have saved a couple bucks in shipping. Blah, whatever. Saving $15 and having it today would have been nice, but this heap will make it another 3 days.

edit edit: nope, would have only saved $2. Now I feel better. lol

Which MicroCenter do you shop, Zap?

Only ask because my "main" MC, the Marietta location in Atlanta, GA, does reserve cpus bought online with the in-store pickup. They reserved an i7 920 for me when they came out without a problem. (I live in excess of 2 hours away.....but the pickup option does give you lke 48 hours to complete so it's a trip I can plan.) The other location, the Duluth loc. in Atlanta, not so much.....really depends on who you talk to and what you want.

Does your MC pricematch Newegg's prices? I've heard some don't.....the two I mentioned above do. And they don't add shipping to the cost, either....just the straight listed price on NE's site/product page.

Strange how policies vary like that.

I placed my online order for a 2600K at Microcenter at 5:30 a.m. central time (Houston store). It's been over an hour now and still no confirmation email. They showed 9 in stock before I ordered and now 8 in stock.
