I went to MC in Atlanta (Marietta), GA yesterday. It's 400 mile round trip for me. I wasn't going to go just for the CPU, so I searched their site for other bargains to make the trip worth it.
Long story short, I now have an i7 2600K and two Lian-Li PC-A77FB cases!
I don't know yet if I want to keep both cases. I suppose that I could switch out my old PC-65B case in my home server (the old P4 in my sig) since I could definitely use more space for more HDDs. I'll probably end up selling one of the A77 cases since I need money to complete my Sandy Bridge build.
I like the A77 so far. There's plenty of room to work with, and airflow is excellent. I'm already thinking about things that I want to change, though. First off, the fans aren't that good. I see that I can easily replace the front three 120mm fans with three 140mm fans and still have the top two bays available. The two 140mm fans on the top vibrate (poor rotor balance?). I'll have to isolate them from the chassis If I keep them. The rear 120mm fan is the worst. Taking off the inner guard helped a lot, but the fan still buzzes at any speed. That fan will be the first to be replaced.
I can already tell that removing and cleaning all of those front fan filters is going to be a pain. I think I'll have a single piece of metal fabricated to replace the bottom ten bay covers. I'll make a single large filter to put behind it.
I'll also have to add some damping material here and there to keep vibration noise down. My goal is to have a very quiet yet powerful system.
Well, I'm getting there slowly. I still lack a motherboard, RAM, HSF, BD drive, and OS. It'll probably be a few more weeks until I have all of my parts. I can't wait!
