But anyhow, this movie was extremely good. Very emotional and I can't imagine how powerful it would be if you grew up with the series from the start.
The ending was kind of meh. I mean don't get me wrong, it was pretty good, but I just had a much better one in my mind that would still convey the same message.
It's worth seeing.
SPOILERS!!!!!
Rocky: Rocky is a nobody selected to fight the champ (Apollo Creed). Apollo is expected to handle Rocky easily, but Rocky goes the distance. Apollo wins by judges' decision, Rocky yells "ADRIAN!"
Rocky II: Rematch. Rocky and Apollo beat the hell of out each other. Both fall down at the same time. Rocky stands up just in time to win the heavyweight title from Apollo.
Rocky III: Rocky fights a bunch of nobodies in a quick montage, then fights a serious contender - Clubber Lang (Mr. T). Rocky is out of shape and doesn't take the match seriously, and Clubber beats him easily. Before the match Rocky's long-time trainer Mickey dies of a heart attack. Apollo Creed convinces Rocky to let him train him to get the heavyweight title back from Clubber. Rocky fights Clubber again and wins.
Rocky IV: Ivan Drago (the Russian) comes to America to fight the best American fighters. Apollo Creed agrees to fight him. Drago kills him with a crushing punch. Literally - he died. Rocky agrees to a fight in Russia to get revenge. Rocky wins. Makes touching speech about how we can all get along. Berlin wall falls 4 years later, and the Soviet Union collapses 2 years after that. Rocky believed responsible.
Rocky V: While away in Russia, Rocky left control of his fortune to his bungling brother-in-law Paulie, who allowed it to be swindled by a shady lawyer or accountant or something. Rocky is now broke, except for the gymn in Philadelphia that was left to him by his late trainer Mickey. Rocky re-opens the gym and starts training and managing a young boxer named Tommy Gunn. Tommy wanted a shot at the title, but Rocky didn't think he was ready - so Tommy finds a new manager. Tommy wins the title, and the movie ends with a street fight between Rocky and Tommy, which Rocky wins.
So Rocky doesn't always win, and he isn't even always the underdog.
