But anyhow, this movie was extremely good. Very emotional and I can't imagine how powerful it would be if you grew up with the series from the start.

The ending was kind of meh. I mean don't get me wrong, it was pretty good, but I just had a much better one in my mind that would still convey the same message.

It's worth seeing.

SPOILERS!!!!!

Rocky: Rocky is a nobody selected to fight the champ (Apollo Creed). Apollo is expected to handle Rocky easily, but Rocky goes the distance. Apollo wins by judges' decision, Rocky yells "ADRIAN!"

Rocky II: Rematch. Rocky and Apollo beat the hell of out each other. Both fall down at the same time. Rocky stands up just in time to win the heavyweight title from Apollo.

Rocky III: Rocky fights a bunch of nobodies in a quick montage, then fights a serious contender - Clubber Lang (Mr. T). Rocky is out of shape and doesn't take the match seriously, and Clubber beats him easily. Before the match Rocky's long-time trainer Mickey dies of a heart attack. Apollo Creed convinces Rocky to let him train him to get the heavyweight title back from Clubber. Rocky fights Clubber again and wins.

Rocky IV: Ivan Drago (the Russian) comes to America to fight the best American fighters. Apollo Creed agrees to fight him. Drago kills him with a crushing punch. Literally - he died. Rocky agrees to a fight in Russia to get revenge. Rocky wins. Makes touching speech about how we can all get along. Berlin wall falls 4 years later, and the Soviet Union collapses 2 years after that. Rocky believed responsible.

Rocky V: While away in Russia, Rocky left control of his fortune to his bungling brother-in-law Paulie, who allowed it to be swindled by a shady lawyer or accountant or something. Rocky is now broke, except for the gymn in Philadelphia that was left to him by his late trainer Mickey. Rocky re-opens the gym and starts training and managing a young boxer named Tommy Gunn. Tommy wanted a shot at the title, but Rocky didn't think he was ready - so Tommy finds a new manager. Tommy wins the title, and the movie ends with a street fight between Rocky and Tommy, which Rocky wins.

So Rocky doesn't always win, and he isn't even always the underdog.

TheAudit's review of Rocky Balboa -

Billed as God's Greatest Cinematic Creation, Rocky Balboa did not quite live up to the hype.
A decent flick, and certainly not a waste of my money, it carried all of the legendary Rocky clichés into the 21st century with some dignity.
With his wife, Adrian, passed away and his son a homosexual crack addict, Rocky is a log set adrift in a river of racist misery.
What to do?
Come back for one last fight to beat up a black guy.

Rocky is inspirational, it's the classic underdog story of a semi-retarded man versus his inners demons personified here by the real-life one-time light heavyweight boxing champion, Antonio Carver. And it has all of the Rocky staples including Paulie (he isn't dead yet?), the trainer (with the same frothing spit coming from his mouth!), Rocky pounding his meat (!), Rocky running with his mutt, Rocky with an impassioned speech to his son to get back into the closet, Rocky on the toilet, Rocky setting up auctions of Rocky memorabilia on eBay, Rocky on Celebrity Jeopardy ('I'll take Pizza Pie for $200, Alex') and, of freaking course, Rocky working out to a musical montage of clips from previous Rocky movies showing him getting his butt kicked but somehow winning in the end.

Rocky getting beat up once again brought a tear to my eye.

It may sound like I did not like this movie but that is far from the truth. No one should mistake this movie for a good theatrical outing but it is a great experience especially if you are a fan of the previous Rocky movies (Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky in Africa, Rocky IV, Rocky: Vegas Vacation, Rocky Strikes Back, Rocky of the Caribbean and Rocky V).
And, perhaps most importantly, it was inspirational.

Rocky Balboa - 3 out of 4 stars

I haven't seen this movie, but if 'tradition' holds up, the outcome will be the same as the first fight.

Don't know if you recall, but he lost the first fight.

I guess my assessment was incorrect.

I think he's doing the series harm! He's too old! Man, he should have stopped after the second one!

$10 says he's in better shape at 60 than you are now.

$10 also says that he has done a lot more roids than NuAlphaMan ever will use.

Roids only make you big while you're using them. If you did roids in the 80's, you're not still going to be seeing the benefits now. You quickly deflate because your body's testosterone drops rapidly after you stop boosting it.

And we have no proof that he did roids in the first place.

Just saw it.

It was awesome. Very surprised at how well Stallone wrote and directed this movie.

Bravo!

He did write the original Rocky.

And then a lot of things happened.

And here we are now.

Yea. It was groundbreaking. But really...IV is the best. No movie brings out emotions in a man like Rocky. Mixture of pure rage/sadness when Apollo dies, then the 'pump up' factor of the greatest montage in history (capped off by rocky yelling DRAAGOOOO at the top of the mountain), and then the ultimate rush when he wins and gives his motivational speech that clearly ended the cold war.

god do I love rocky.

I'm just glad they didn't have him doing 1 arm pullups or else I'd have to call bs. I think they showed him benching 355 or so if that was even real. I made it through the whole movie without doing my usual 'look around and wonder how much longer' I've been doing in a lot of the movies lately.

IV was always my favorite until I finally saw the first one. I still feel a special attachment to IV because it was the only one I saw in the theater and I actually remember what was going on in the world at that time even though I was fairly young at the time. I think that makes a difference in one's opinion on IV.

I wouldn't see it under any circumstance, including seeing it for free. How many times could people watch the same theme over and over and over? How many regurgitations can you people stand!?

It's not a masterpiece or anything, but it's a really enjoyable movie. Especially if you've seen the other Rockys. slip the jab.

saw it. wasnt that bad. wow, he's in shape for a 60yr old. much better than arnold.

i was wondering how they were going to make the fight realistic. i mean it's like Mike Tyson in his prime vs Mohamed Ali now. the slow buildup about his opponent being champ because he only fought weak chumps kinda made me think Rocky could go toe to toe.

but breaking his hand during the fight was STUPID! why wasnt the fight stopped then and there?!
