I'll be upgrading my 7800GTX to 4850, so if you could run a couple of benchies that would be great.

I need one of you lot to upgrade away from your S939 X2 - and then sell it to me.

I was using a stock Athlon X2 3800+ for about two years before I upgraded to an Intel C2D E6850 and then ultimately to the Q6600 I have now.

If you're still rockin' with an Athlon 64 or X2 and don't see the need to upgrade yet, then I would say you're doing pretty good.

+1. I'm dying to get rid of my x1950 Pro, too... In fact I almost bought a 3850 but I held back and bought a new monitor instead... I think I did right, the 3850 is a turtle compared to the new breed. But because of the resolution increase, my card went from old school to almost useless in some scenarios. I need to know how the 4850 performs on a rig like mine! If somebody tests it at 1680x1050, even better!

We should do some sort of AMD X2 club, don't you think?

I'm running a S939 4200+ X2 and an x1950 pro and am also interested in upgrading to a 4850 - it'd be awesome if you could run some benchies (specifically to see how much performance in cod4 would improve).

Perfectly content with my 5600+ X2 2.9GHz cpu. It runs everything i need to very fast. The next upgrade for me will be a new video card.

Still running on an AMD x2 4600+ 2.4GHz, got it overclocked to 2.7 though now... I could upgrade it, but I think I would more likely get a dx10 card first, probably the 4850.

See my sig.

I will be using this 939 system for another year or two. It does everything I need so I have no reason to upgrade yet.

I'm on an X2 4200+ but while it's a stable computer, I've come to realize that this computer needs upgrading. I was trying to play some newer games and boy...I lagged at 800x600 (settings pretty much all turned low - which made the game look like crap on my 6800GS). If I get a new video card, I get CPU limited. If I get a new CPU, I won't see much of an improvement so my eventual goal (probably by the middle of next month) is to build a new computer.

I'm currently running an Opteron 165 @ 2.6 and a X1900XTX. For the most part, I can run pretty much anything on it still. Occasionally I'll find myself turning down a few settings, and I've stayed far away from Crysis, but the setup is still generally very fast.

I am planning on reviving my AMD rig soon. I recently sold off my FX60 which paid for 80% of my 8400 platform (mb, cpu, ram) but I still do have an opteron 175 which i also recently bought off ebay that is suppose to clock higher than 3Ghz... only problem is i need to change out my board. It still works but i think its my limiting factor as both the FX and opteron couldn't reach beyond 2.9 stable... wasn't a fsb wall either just a flakey board design - i bougth 2, ended up owning 3 from an rma). I'd like to get an A8N32 Deluxe which is suppose to have 8 phase pwm compared to the A8R32 i had...

I loved my AMD machine, possibly a new vid card may have put another year on it, but as soon as i seen the FX60's going for 300+ on ebay, I parted with my favorite chip. And it was good with gaming at 1280x1024 and a 1900XTX - seen 200's in COD4 with mipmap on low and low q settings, but it didn't differ that much with ingame settings to high, plus they weren't needed... but UT3 was a diff story and was the main reason for upgrading...

You might want to try a new video card with your X2 before you build a whole new system. I upgraded from a 6800GS to an 8800GT about 6 months ago and it made a huge difference. You can always use the new card in your new system build if you're not satisfied.

I've got new E8400 and Q9450 rigs, but I still love my Opteron 165, probably will never get rid of it seeing as how it was my first dualie

I am. X2 is running fine... I don't think anyone still with a single core is happy, though.

I recently upgraded from my socket 939 system to my current Phenom. My socket 939 system was plenty fast. I upgraded just to upgrade, not because I needed too. Besides, it was nice to make the switch to DDR2, it's so cheap for 4 gigs. Anyway, I can't tell a difference between my socket 939 Opteron @ 2.56GHz and my Phenom @ 2.8GHz in gaming, still using the same Radeon 2900Pro for both. I'm sure that's far more limiting then the CPU.

+1. When I upgraded from a 7600GT to a 1950 Pro the difference was massive. And I'm extremely GPU limited still because of my new LCD.

Don't get rid of the X2, man. It's still got plenty of yuz to give. Even Crysis will fly on that CPU with a nice video card.

And whoever mentioned the single core A64s... I used to have one of those until 6 months ago or so. Ran at 2.4 Ghz. Crysis was dreadful. I'm sure my FPS doubled on it when I got the dual core. So yeah, I wouldn't be happy with it, even if it hit 3 Ghz or something.

On what settings did the X2 start to fall to pieces on Crysis? What did you have to lower to let the CPU breathe on it? How many Ghz was it pushing? Also, what video card, how much RAM, etc.?

I'm interested.

I'm interested.

i ran the 5000+ stock with no overclocking. aircooled with an AC64....nothing fancy
had a 8800GTS 640mb in there; thats about it

it was a mix between medium and high, wasnt mind blowing but still about Xbox360 good, in my opinion

funny thing is, with the current setup in my sig......i can barely play crysis. can't figure out the problem.... go figure

I'm still running an AMD 3200+ with only 1GB/RAM and a 6600 GT. I mainly use it for web browsing, as well as playing Team Fortress 2 and CS:Source. It does all of those things well. Even though I have the itch to upgrade, I really can't justify it since this rig is still rock solid for my needs.

I would think so, but you might want to check this first:

When the Smoke Clears & Prices Settle: GeForce 9600 GT vs. Radeon HD 3870

Sounds like the Radeon HD 3870 might give you more bang for the buck. I haven't been paying that much attention to the video card market lately, but it looks like the competition has picked up again. Good news for hardware enthusiasts.

Sounds like I might just pull the trigger on one in the next week or so lol...thanks!

So... another question in this old school AMD club I founded... sort of.

You guys think I'll see any significant advantages with a 4850 over a 3870? My CPU won't go any further than 2.6 Ghz, and I play my games mostly at 1680x1050 if possible. I love the AA candy, but I can certainly live without it. Just wanted your opinion on if I'll be buying "useless" headroom or not. What do you think?

Yes, unless you're planning on upgrading your CPU fairly soon, at 1680x1050, a 4850 will be a waste of your money, assuming you weren't wanting maximum amount of AA. And if you are wanting to game @ 1680x1050 with AA maxed, you'll want a faster card than the 4850.
