3-year Mach-E update from Matt, VERY positive.

I took issue with the Mustang name when it first came out, but everyone calls it the Mach-E, so whatever Prior to driving the F-150 Lightning EV, I called the Mach-E the car (ICE or EV) I've ever driven. Just a fantastic design. SURPRISINGLY well-made. Ford took their time getting into the EV game, but they knocked it out of the park!

Over 8,000 miles of smiles and still loving mine! It is hands down the best vehicle I have ever owned.

I didn't care about the name. I needed a mid size cross over suv that could comfortably seat my family of four and also have plenty of storage space but I also wanted something with a little performance. The Mach-E delivers on so many levels it's insane. IMO it is one of the most underrated EVs on the market right now.

It is one of the cars near the top of my used car hunt list. Keeping my eyes open for ones that qualify for the used ev tax credit. Not a lot out there yet but they are out there.

One of the reasons I was interested in the Mach-e is because it looks like nothing else in Fords line up. Sure the taillights and maybe the head lights bare some resemblance to the coupe Mustang but everything in between is a Ford original.

They went all in on their first EV and it shows.

After a really rough honeymoon period mine has really improved. OTA's are far less disruptive, less frequent and shit isn't changing every few months.

I got all of the faulty sensors replaced and a pile of recalls done.

But I also bought a
The Ford EV premium 10 year extended warranty for it and plan to outright buy it when my Options contract is up.

We did go to the Portland car show and looked at close to a dozen EV's. There just weren't many that had the combination of front seat comfort, back seat room, cargo and just overall fit and finish quality that our Mach-E has.

It's just really well done. I have my complaints. But overall I enjoy driving and owning it.

How is the actual real world highway range on it?

It's very conditional.

Speed, Cold and climbing kill it. I've got one of the OG Premium extended AWD models.

Cold weather is the worst and just murders range. I live in Portland and can drive to the beach and back without charging and up to Mt Hood to ski without charging.

The coast is about 180 miles round trip with 3k of elevation. Going to to Hood is almost 5k of climbing and about a 140 mile round trip.

The coast I can get home with about 20% range if it's nice out.

Hood is takes me from 85% to 50% on the way up. And then only used about 10% on the way down leaving me pretty comfortable.

I get around 2.7 kw/m on average with a mix of city and highway driving. Not the greatest but I tend to have a heavy right foot. EV's and hybrids never get the greatest highway/interstate range. They really shine when it comes to city driving which ironically is the exact opposite of ICE.

Anyway, I gave my Mustang a bath tonight and took this photo after getting off work.

Grabber Blue is my favorite, followed by the Citrus of the earlier GT's.

The current year colors are awful.

Actually I went and looked, it's not as bad as I thought. There's more colors available. They must have had bad info at the car show.

But also, you are correct as well. Both can apply. (though if I were trying to suggest what you understood, I would have said "Is there a Mustang in that picture?")

Yeah the Mach-e looks great in Grabber Blue. The first time I saw one was three years ago when visiting California. We were in San Francisco for a few days before heading up north to Napa Valley.

I was at a stop light in San Francisco and saw a Mach-e in Grabber Blue and I instantly knew that was the color I was going with. Two years later I had saved up a nice down payment so I special ordered a 2023 from my local Ford dealer.

I like it just wish Ford hadn't cheaped out on the hardware for the main display resulting in the current laggy mess. My other vehicles have normal HVAC knobs/buttons and it's so nice.

Agreed. At least I can roll the windows down easier than a Tesla and adjust the vents easier than a Rivian.

Oh and get Google maps.

Moving to touch screen UI is just regressive for basic car functions. It's a safety risk, is less effective, and just a much more frustrating experience.

My wife has this on her list to test drive before she has to pick a new lease up in November. Things can obviously change in the time between now and then, but Ford lost the tax credit, dropped the residuals and increased the money factor on these by quite a bit. It ended up making them drastically less appealing than some other EV options. The price cuts they put out don't remotely cover the differences. We'll still test drive one, but as of today, they are very poor lease value.

Misleading headlines are the norm now. If you read the article it mentions that Ford attributes a lot of the loss to research and development for future EVs but that is only half of the story.

While R&D for future EVs is important most of that loss can be assigned to building Blue Oval City and the joint venture with SK for a state of the art battery plant being built in Tennessee known as BlueOval SK Battery Park.

These types of facilities come at a premium price and the up front investment is huge. All of these initial investments come out of Ford Model E which is Fords fledgling EV start up.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't just read the headline. Dig a little deeper and find out more about the story.

Mach E updated, now has Rally model:
The new Rally model looks awesome. For those who don't want to watch a 15 minute YT video here are some links to Car & Driver and MotorTrend.

Both give it favorable reviews but I think MotorTrend put it best when they said.
It also explores the idea of EVs in a different role, not just as quarter-mile monsters or executive expresses but instead as occupying other fun, diverse, and hopefully affordable niches. For now, the Rally stands apart from other Mach-Es, and the EV crowd in general, in the best way possible.

I'm very interested to see if the ATV market moves to EV platforms. I'd have to think that a sealed motor like an EV provides is better than something ICE and has gearing and expensive drive belts that can get shredded. Plus the weight of the battery pack can be such that it lowers center of gravity I would think as well.

When you say ATV, do you mean UTV / SxS? For trail riding, I doubt they'd be particularly popular unless batteries get a lot better. For UTV use, they'd probably work out pretty decent.
