Subjective? Yes, but to me reliability, ease of setup, and functuality are the top three criteria.

If I have left off your favorite,,make your case

ok have had 3-4 requests for tyan and supermicro. guess I don't usually shop for $400.00 motherboards

Tyan and Supermicro. Super reliable boards with rare failure cases. Insane support and extremely high quality parts.

Generally their boards are made for 24/7 servers and are made for rock solid stability and longetivity.

Based on my one dealing with them, I say Shuttle. Unfortunately, I don't think they still produce motherboards, but rather just XPCs. Too bad, because my AN35N is hot stuff, $50 nforce2 ultra board at a time when most others were more expensive, rather light on the options but incredible overclocking performance, rock solid stable, and nothing I can do seems to be able to kill it. Not to mention it has excellent cpu overclocking options, though a bit lacking on the memory.

But cheap, great overclocking and overclocking options, and stable, what more could one ask of a minimalist design?(I believe there was some famous high performance motherboard guy who founded shuttle too, so there)

Please remove the "I know a cheap board..." bit. My Epox board was anything but cheap, not to mention the fact that it's the second best mb I've ever owned.

My favorite was the abit NF7-S2.

Went with Asus.
I'm on a DFI mobo now, but between it's silly northbridge placement and the many demands it puts on your other components it's hard to give it an overall win.
Tyan and Supermicro are certainly the ones I'd trust the most for stability/reliability, but overall they're not exactly mainstream motherboards.
