I've had 3 Asus mobo's die on me for no reason.

Abit so far. I've only used those 2 manufacturers.

edit: yes i overclock. my 1700+ ran stable (as in its used 100% non-stop for Distributed Computing) @ 2.3 ghz (I think that's 900 mhz )

my P4C is at a mild o/c of 3.22ghz(400mhz) due to bad ram.

You Do know when you refer to HP almost all of them are made by asus, not just like how Asus makes intels board for them, they are Asus labeled Asus boards.

I know Asus makes mobos for HP, I just didn't quite understand the engrish in the post I quoted...

How come n00bs always have poor English?

I'm not entirely sure that was English...though English isn't my mother tounge, so what do I know...?

I don't see how DFI could be the best. I think it has so many features, but all of it comes at a tradeoff. You have SO MANY problems. I couldn't even boot until like 20 tries later. MY friend is having stupid problems with a Seasonic S12 and DFI. I mean the incompatibilities of DFI and other components is just a huge issue. I have OCZ VX, and I know I'm gonna be hitting maybe coldboot and ram fryage sometime later. This is just insane.

All this for overclockage? I guess it's worth it for me, but does that mean DFI is the best motherboard maker? Nah. I say they're flawed to the max but I would still get the board.

Ok and I do have a DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D. I don't plan on returning it, and if I were to buy the exact same system again with a choice of motherboard, I wuold STILL get the DFI board.

However, my vote goes to Abit who has provided me rock solid boards before. Sorry DFI. I'm having a great experience this time (much better than with my Abit board), but this doesn't mean you're the best mobo maker.

I have had asus in almost all of the computers I have either built or bought and have never had one fail. The one time I did try another brand of board, which was an abit, the mobo failed after 3 months of use. So I will say that ASUS is the makes the best mobo's.

I'd say a tie between DFI and ASUS, but voted DFI. ASUS is nice, had one myself and really liked it, but they always have that temp reporting error (ASUSProbe underreports by 5-7 C on every board I've ever set up) so I give the edge to DFI. And for those who dislike the MSI, I think that's a remnant from the XP days, the Neo2 Platty was/is the best 939 AGP board out there.

Where is Tyan? I've got a 440BX board that's been running 24x7 since Aug of 98. It started out as a single PII 350, later got a second PII 350 for it and has since been upgraded to dual PIII 600s.

I would say DFI but having never owned one and the issues I've read about their Nforce3 I'd have to say Abit. Are Asus really still the best? I know in the past they were unbeatable but haven't really heard anything good about them the last 2-3 years.

I agree. Asus doesn't seem to be doing that well lately.
I voted Epox. Never had a problem with them and I'm still using one that is 4+years old. Compatabilty is excellent, and have been extremely stable for me.

Well, how are we supposed to know which motherboards are the best if we haven't experienced them all ourselves? I mean, I doubt that any of us have owned more than ~2-3 motherboards before, so we wouldn't exactly know which company is the best right? Because reading something is much different from experiencing it yourself...

SuperMicro... They have stuff that other places just can't compare to. Abit for your regular stuff though.

Voted DFI, but have been using epox boards without problems. Above average overclocking options and very low prices - but I really want a DFI for the extra overclocking abilities

Epox rma is great, too. Had an old nforce2 motherboard that died a few months ago and figured it was out of warranty. Epox replaced it with no hassle.

My opinion is that ASUS is or was the best built board but it has been a few years since I used them, and the price was one reason I stopped. I have used Abit for my last 4 personal builds and have been very satisfied. Each one was a clean build and performed perfectly. My AV8 was the only hiccup but that was related to a PS so I can't blame the board for that one. Abit has given me the same quality and reliability of service that ASUS delivered but for a few dollars less.

That said, I still can't prove that a big name board is better in terms of stability (you didn't mention OC'ing) than any other brand x board. I have a $29 Acorp that runs W2K 24/7 and hasn't crashed in over a year. I reboot it about once a month. The key is to supply the board with solid power, keep it as cool as reasonably possible and use good RAM with whatever you build.
