No, when you try to log onto a multiplayer server, it first authenticates you with the minecraft servers, so when the minecraft servers are down you can't get into a multiplayer server (although players already on will not be affected).

Unfortunately, I wanted to reset my client so I logged out, only to find that minecraft.net is down and therefore I can't get back onto the AT server...

The guy developing the game is currently in over his head. An actual development studio could have an actual release before he does, even if they started next week. My point was that someone else could, and might, make the same concept into a better looking and improved version. Adding physics and better graphics doesn't in any way diminish the concept. He should sell the game and make the most of it before someone else snipes him.

Notch has made over 3 million dollars gross. Sell the game before he gets sniped? He has nothing to fear. He has made way more than he could have ever imagine.

And yes, better graphics and physics would diminish from the concept. If I wanted to play some shiny physics simulator, I'd play one of the other 121924109 modern games with those elements nowadays.

The simplistic laws of the world as well are the simple graphic design are what make the game beautiful.

As for "improving" Minecraft, what exactly would they improve? Better graphics? Better physics? What?

Notch has a whole list of things he wants to put into the game and most of them sound completely, totally, awesome. In the meantime, I'm going to continue enjoying mining ore, discovering enormous caves, fighting monsters, and adding on to my enormous sky castle.

The beauty of this game is in its simplistic approach that doesn't feel limiting. I can ignore physics and build a huge castle in the sky (awesome) or I can adhere to them and build something on the ground. I can build a home in a mountain or under the ocean. I can fight monsters to get their items or I can build elaborate traps that kill them for me and harvest their items.

Anyway, Notch is currently setting up a system so that he can exclusively spend time coding Minecraft. Would it get done faster with 10+ people? Probably, but who cares? Most games that are betas are less playable than Minecraft is right now, today. There are features missing, but, truthfully, it adds to the appeal. People get to feel like they're helping to shape the game.

Oh, he should definitely sell because he has no idea what he's doing... except for the simple fact that a game he started coding as a hobby has turned into something that (a) more than pays his living expenses and (b) has hundreds of thousands of people playing the ALPHA. Is some studio going to steal the idea? Maybe, but unlikely. The game type is so off the beaten track that most studios would shit a brick before they threw money at the project.

Exactly. And bottom line. Its worth 12 dollars. Even if it doesn't work on occasion due to the lag between this game more than tripling its player base in a few week time span (Poor servers).

Something like that has to be imported and created into the world. Just like those 1000+ barrel TNT explosion videos posted where they have some type of server plugin to !givetnt or whatever.

But I do see a lot of Minecraft videos with some crazy stuff in it. From the sounds of the AT server (haven't checked it out yet) there's some huge buildings. That stuff must take forever to create. I know the couple things I've done in Minecraft have taken a while. Like 3 hours just to create a little stone house with some glass and a farm and tree farm.

In one of the 20 something videos I watched prior to purchase I saw one. Due to the triangular shape, IT KICK BUTT.

Like I said earlier, I hate you all. This week. Alarm goes off at 4:45 AM. Get ready and go to gym? NAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Boot up MC.

I have not built a house yet, I am still living in a cave in the side of a mountain. I have turned it into a mine and finding Iron but no Coal. But I digress.
Those exploding guys. Proximity fuse? I was looking out my portal sticking my tongue out at him when suddenly BLAM. And half my cave was sand! So I am building the wall in front of me out of stone not looking around, and suddenly BLAM there was one on the level above me? Doing a LOT of rebuilding now with stone.
So I guess they are proximity fuses. Yes?

And I need opinion. I stopped watching videos and I have resisted MC Wiki. I am ALONE on this island (my sandbox) and I experiment with crafting trying to "keep it real".

My son thinks I am nucking futs. This AM, I tripped across making a boat! It was a sweet moment.

The ONLY place I may break is forging. Coal is WAY to precious in my world and wood burns for CRAP. Logs or planks, so far I see no difference.

One last point. Now that I have found iron, leather is obsolete (I think). I saw a bowl recipe in one of the earlier videos I already watched. I am going to try and "use" a cow tonight.
Hoping for milk.
I think they have horns so if something does come out (no pun intended) I HOPE ITS MILK!!!!!!!!!!!

When you find coal, you usually find A LOT of it! I usually find like 20-40 pieces at a time. I have about 150 in the MP server and about equal in my single player game. The thing that is most scarce to me is sand (since I am nowhere near water) and clay (I haven't seen it at all). I would also like to find more gold, since I want to make a gold suit of armor. (Just because it looks cool)

Gold is shiny and pretty! In the server where you can take no damage, armor is just a decoration anyway. Of course, I lost my Gold hat and pants when I fell in the lava while I was expanding my cave. I now have to start over with my gaudy suit of gold.

Just mine yourself a tunnel to the bottom of the map and start the square mining pattern. The minute you find a lava cave, explore the whole thing. There's almost always diamond near lava.

In my single player game, I mined a staircase to the bottom of the map and ran into a huge lava cave, which I dug around and started mining. A few days later, I was exploring the area around my home and I found this huge hole in the ground (not a chunk error). After exploring downward, I realized that it was a gigantic cave that went from the surface to the lava pit I found.... totally awesome!
