I'm not quite sure how the snow works. From what I've read, I thought it was either snow or no snow. In my local multiplayer world, as far as I've seen everything is snowy, and I've walked quite a ways. I've come across quite a few variations of land: large oceans, mountain ranges, rolling hills, but it's all snowy.

Apparently there's a feature being worked on so that the system supports biomes, so you can get a variety of land types in the same world.

Nah, you can walk far enough to leave snow, at least in my experience, and definitely on my server, there's snow at and around the spawn point and then when you walk a bit it's dry and sunny again.

The really weird thing is that it WASN'T snowing when I started this server 2 weeks ago in that location, and now it is, but only in that area of map that has been opened up at this point.

If you look at the map I posted tho, it clearly shows where the snow ends and the non-snow areas begin and end tho.

It seems that if you have both snow and summer on the map it's a know bug that happened to the server but I like having both so it's a decent bug.

On a side note I think it's time to start a religion in the game...

Creeptology!!

Praise to Creeper, he exploded for our sins.

Just posted the isometric map online as well, converted it to a jpg since it was 106MB as a png file, you can grab it here.

Very cool! Windows Picture Viewer is garbage when viewing anything more than 5 MB but other programs handle the large pictures fine.

My pistol (modeling after a 1911) will look sweet in that view once I finish it! Right now it's just the grip and start of the slide.

What happened with the fire lately? Now you can't use the flint & steel to light anything on fire. I liked using it to light wood permanently as like a fireplace, but also to clear away leaves. When I already have plenty of tree seedlings (like now, have over 128), when I cut down a tree, I'd just get the wood then light the leaves on fire.

For some reason it seems like leaves barely disappear from chopped trees in multiplayer. So the fire was a quick way to clean out the area so a new one could be replanted.

Well the fire you start from a flint is removed to prevent griefers from burning houses.

If there is a mod on they can spawn a fire item to make fires for fireplaces and such if needed.

Alright... I confess I am curious but afraid I'd lose my life to this!

Yeah I thought that might be the case. Stinks though using the fire to remove clumps of leaves is great when you don't need any saplings.

Still though, when I played earlier someone had lite things outside the default spawn on fire and trashed some of the area. I think they emptied out some people's chests too. It wasn't when I was on but it did happen sometime between when I played yesterday and today.

Who are these griefers? Seems like you would only know the AT server address if you were a member here.

I think the OP has posted the server at other sites too.

That sucks, as I was relying on fire to finish my projects. I'll just ask for working "fire blocks" when I get to that part I guess.

I Grief people. But only in a minor annoying way. Spawn behind them spook them. Chase them around with firebolts for a short while. If they are AFK I put them in a glass tomb with a waterfall over their head. Nothing serious;p

I hopped on the server the other night (Minecraft name is coolerking) to see what you guys had been up to... very impressive stuff compared to my SP game, especially the giant bowl/basket/satellite dish looking thing. Thanks to vshah for showing me around a little and explaining that T is talk, hah.

I have a question - last night I was playing in SP and came across a dungeoun in my mining project. One of the items in the loot chest was a weird, black and yellow (iirc) eye shaped thing. No idea what it is, haven't seen it before on the wiki or anything. Any ideas what this is?

Edit - Nevermind, gold record...

Started playing the free version yesterday.. just got the paid version today, and I think I'm addicted. This game is a great time waster.

:EDIT: Been getting quite a few socket errors on the grady.boldlygoingnowhere.org server, though.. you can tell when it's coming because stuff that you destroyed starts coming back.

You can make a compass which always points towards the default spawn.

There is also a /compass command that just gives you the cardinal/ordinal of wherever you're facing.

That's good to know.

I caved and bought this yesterday. Had some initial growing pains, but I think I started getting the hang of it. I love the strategery that comes into play in survival. I also jumped on the AT server...pretty impressive fellas. Where is an ideal locale for claiming a small stake in your beautiful world?

See you guys out there...

just find an empty hilltop and start building. if you exit the spawn point and turn left, walk straight for about a minute and you should find plenty of space.

What is the general ettiquette rule about starting to mine? Was it ok for me to mine a few blocks of iron out of that massive underground hallway/tunnel network?

Should I just try and use my best judgement about it or are there actual guidelines?

If it was my long tunnel, then it is fine (as long as you cleaned up after yourself). If you are the person who stole the ~200 Steel Ingots from me, then that was not proper etiquette. If you had asked I likely would have given most of it to you anyway though.
