i dont understand the premise of this game and why it's so popular

To be honest, you have to actually try it to understand it. Watching videos of it is cool and all, but you don't earn that understanding until you actually buy it and play it.

That said, there's some people that just don't enjoy the game, but most of the people that I got to play it, really liked it.

Yes, me too. This game has a lot of possibilities. The open endedness of this game makes it great. People can do whatever their mind can think of, which gives the game the ability to morph into many more things than it was originally intended to be. To think that only one guy is developing it, and it's a fairly solid game (especially for only being in alpha) is kind of mind boggling.

Games like this make me hope that the whole publisher/developer relationship just goes away and more developers start going indie. Sure, you don't get all of the advertising that you would get if you had a publisher throwing money at you, but you also don't have the restrictions that that publisher puts on you. If you make games that are worth purchasing, word of mouth will do the advertising for you. Just look at Minecraft. I've never seen an advertisement for it on any website, but it's sold almost 500k units. That's a hell of a lot of profit for notch.

Yeah, I can understand people pirating or DDOSing big videogame companies (even if I don't approve), but Minecraft? Some people are assholes.

According to a post on a Minecraft Forum thread (scroll down like 15 posts) it's some 4chan people fed up with lack of updates and they're going to do it for a week. I really doubt that's the truth. Someone jealous or just being an asshole causing shit over the internet.

Not sure when notch's ISP got it resolved but Minecraft has been up for me since I checked like 8 hours ago.

Has anyone been using Far View Distance on Krakn's server lately? The other day someone said in game how nice it was to use Far instead of Normal. Recently I checked it out and was using it for a good 5-10 minutes with no crashing. There were some blocks in the distance just sitting there like it wasn't rendering everything out there but it was better than Normal. I'm not sure why as the game hasn't been updated but it seemed to be stable.

I usually turn far distance on when I get away from the spawn location. I find it is really only unstable there.

OK. I was getting bored with Minecraft. My son (who got me hooked) was also getting bored the every other or every friday updates is what made the game living and changing.
So I tried something. FIGHTINNG MONSTERS ROCKS!

Added a WHOLE new dimension to the game right now. I am just concerned as Iron and coal are STILL a hard to find commodity in my world. I would LOVE To make a rail system, but CRAP... I need Iron for my tools and sword. IT KILLS me to use sticks for ladders as TREES are becoming scarce BY me. (However, planted trees NOW seems like they are gowing. AFTER 7 or 8 game day cycles).

I desire to find a dungeon. But cant. I am not good with add ons so cartographer (Or whatever that program is) aint good for me.

I always read about "growls" or scarey music and that should be a spawn point/dungeon point.

I have burrowed out HUGE halls when I hear those sounds. NUTTIN.

What am I doing wrong?

Based upon all the fear and anxiety over lamps as of Monday (I play almost daily) all my coal becomes a torch. I dont have Iron to spend.

Has anyone heard will GOLD be useful in the Halloween patch?

Finding caves isnt as bad as you think. Just pick any direction and walk it, soon enough youll find a cave with a crap ton of resources. just make sure you leave blocks behind to find your way back to your home. I recently found a massive cave system and cant find my way out. I mined about 120 iron blocks too just from exploring that cave.

I got lost in a cave once, so I dug straight up. Then I gathered a bunch of tools and dug a 9x9 square straight down to bedrock . Not sure what I want to do with the massive hole now. Any ideas?

I recently found a massive cave system and cant find my way out. I mined about 120 iron blocks too just from exploring that cave.

If you are on MP you could always just teleport back to home or spawn (or wherever). If you are on SP, then just dig yourself a staircase out and see if you can find your way home (compass is useful here).

Someone from the server I play on dug a massive hole like 30x30 or something all the way down to bedrock, and put a ton of torches all the way down. Looks awesome, like something out of star wars, like a tunnel for a spaceship or something.
