i made a watch and i see new colors for things, like leaves on trees and the sunsets/sunrises, and new music, but how do I make lanterns and where do i get pumpkins?
as far as i know it updates when you log in.
Yeah I hope #1 is just a bug that gets fixed. It's annoying to have to destroy leaves manually. At first I thought people were mistaking leaves with a supported block (like a log or dirt) supporting them all so they don't disappear but since the update leaves don't decay at all.New Findings:
1. Seems like tree leaves don't decay anymore.
2. There are colorful sunsets.

I guess I have to disagree with the raving fanboys at minecraft.net, but I think the update is a dud. Some minor changes that could have been rolled out any week are probably the best parts.
The whole hell as a transport is useless because the terrain is so uneven you can't walk in a straight line anywhere. Plus the 20 ghasts that appear and it's quicker to just walk in the normal map.
The redstone burning forever is useful, but could have been placed near to lava or something on the normal map. And now creatures can spawn even in fully lit areas if you're deep enough. This game is turning from a fun lego style building game to a nintendo era arcade game.
Why not actually update and advance the gameplay. Like more uses for gold than a watch, more uses for redstone, more uses for the new yellow stone instead of just converting it back to a block, better cart systems, the ability to make machines/transport. Even something as simple as pullies could be used to create elevators or traps to catch mobs.
WOW! WTF!?!?!?!? I was out chopping down trees for a bit and i come back to my house and it it's completely in flames!!!
I'm not sure how it happened. The only thing I can think of is that I had just put a wooden "deck" around the outside area of the 2nd floor of the house and had some torches beneath it and the wood caught on fire? but it doesn't make sense since i have torches on wood and next to wood and right below wood at other places and it never caught fire before...
I'm pretty sure he's gotten these and many more suggestions already. You do realize the game is still in alpha right? And since you seem to have so many great ideas, why don't you go ahead and email him? He's pretty open to suggestions.

No you must have left parts of the tree there. Check out the Leaves page on the Minecraft wiki if you want the details, but basically if there's a leave being supported by a log, dirt, etc, then it's able to support a clump of leaves. So most commonly in multiplayer, people chop part of the tree but leave some of it so the damn leaves are there forever. Once I cleared out all logs and supporting leaves (any touching the ground), the leaves automatically decayed. But since the patch this is no longer true. In singleplayer it's fine because you can use fire to burn the leaves quickly.i think this was there before the Halloween update. I chopped down many trees a long time ago and the leaves are still there.
I tested out the flint and steel thingy on a block of boards and the fire stayed for hours and was still burning when I quit playing. Is that normal?
Yeah, this is what I do now. When I first started I went to a top of closest mountain, dug all the way down to bedrock, and started branching out. Found very little, and it was too the point where I needed to find diamonds just so I can build diamond picks to find more diamonds. Not very fun, and I was going to quit when I broke into a natural cave system that is so vast and plentiful, I still have not mapped it all out. I actually have the luxury to pass on iron veins now. Anyways, the entrance ended up on the surface like 1/4 mile away from where I initially started. So I would look for caves first.
Yep I think you're right. In my latest singleplayer game, I've only found 5 diamonds so far. My method has simply been exploring this massive (largest I've found) natural cave as well as a little bit of tunnel/branch mining at the bedrock in the cave (since the cave didn't naturally go down quite that far). While I've found something like 500+ iron blocks, at least 256 redstone, way too much coal, etc... only those 5 diamond so far!Yeah this is why I don't think it's worthwhile specifically mining for diamond. It's only real use is making diamond tools, and you pretty much wear out your diamond pick axe looking for enough diamond to make another one. I just use stone pickaxes.

I just installed a SSD into my laptop and man does it make a difference with minecraft. The game and levels load so quickly now its crazy, who would have thought that such a old school looking game would benefit.
Also, im not looking forward to monsters spawning in my caves. I have the update and build a giant staircase down to bedrock, so far no monsters. I have started mining out from the bottom to see if I can find caverns.
Im not too impressed with the update yet but its better then nothing. Has anyone been fishing yet?
I'm thinking I'm done with the game now.
