Yeah, I know that.

I just made that comment because a lot of my friends I used to play with that were hardcore minecrafters have moved on into new games such as Skyrim and BF3.

Haha, yeah. For an Indie title it's really good but when the big boys start releasing their new games for the holiday season it seems to go on the back burner for a bit.

It's also one of those games that you either really love and are addicted to, or you play it hardcore for a month, get bored and never look at it again. That happened to me with Terraria. I think I'll be addicted to MC for a while though, it's one of those games I spend WAY more time on than I should

Apparently this is a repost and an active thread regarding this according to KT, but I can't find it so I'll stick it here.

Even after the legal battle Mojang had with Bethesda over the use of "scrolls", there is an item named "Notched Pickaxe" here is an item named "Notched Pickaxe".

http://ology.com/technology/bethesda...ter-egg-skyrim

Thats the "Notched Pickaxe," which bears a striking resemblance to the tool of choice in Minecraft. It supposedly can be found in Skyrim's "Throat of the World," though I have not been able to check for myself. Apparently, even in spite of the lawsuit, Skyrim developers were big Minecraft fans and frequently played it during their breaks. It's nice to know that, even in the midst of all the copyright silliness, game developers can still pay homage to each others' work.
It's cool to see game devs not give a shit about the corporate battles

Yeah. Bethesda's legal team =/= Bethesda themselves. I'm sure most of those guys really don't give a shit, and many of them are, in fact, Minecraft fans.

Speaking of which...

A finished version of Minecraft is releasing this Friday, creator Markus "Notch" Persson announced today.

Through his blog, Notch says that while this is the finished version, that doesn't mean the developer will stop working on the game. "We’ll keep adding to the game just as we have so far, and we have many exciting plans for the next year.. some of these will be announced fairly soon," he said.

Some of those announcement are expected to come during the game's first convention MineCon this Thursday in Las Vegas, Nev.

I skipped 1.8 because of the stronghold limit (most of my server's potential stronghold area has already been generated) but I just updated to 1.0 now. Lots of stuff to do. :awe:

I like the new sound effects. Well, most of them. The sound effect for eating really caught me off guard, hahah. It's like CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP.

So much new stuff, it's gonna take me a while to wrap my head around everything. Despite how much time I've spent playing Minecraft I've always been a little behind on new features.

It's pretty sick the response, this game is hot now (much more than it was before), and up against big players as an indie title, really sweet spot for mojang.

Me too. I'm still learning about stuff implemented in 1.6, but it's pretty cool all the new things to look forward to

I should get back into this game. It's been nearly a year since I last played it; was hardcore into it for a few months but then just kind of stopped.

That GLSL shader looks awesome; I watched a couple videos showing off the shader mod and HD texture pack: WOW.

I'm stuck at my parents' house for the next few days so I can't play Skyrim. I was hoping to play Minecraft on my laptop but it doesn't run very well. And the server I play on reset the map with 1.0 and my big build that I was working on got erased so I don't feel like playing anyway.

I read that the unstable but "trusted" release of bukkit for 1.0 was out, any of you guys who run servers still here? Have you upgraded, or still running 1.81? If you've upgraded how are your plugins working?

I just have a small server running (me and 1 friend who use it) ... and I'm tempted to upgrade for the new features.... Also tempted to generate a new map...

I'm still on 1.9 pre 5, but there is a trusted dev build out now for bukkit. According to the bukkit forums, it looks like a lot of stuff is working already with the dev builds though. Essentials has a dev build available, I'm not sure about RTK though. It's real active though so it shouldn't take long.

I'm going to wait until there are stable/recommended releases though. Otherwise I'll end up re-downloading everything in a week or so. I think I'm going to have to run 2 servers now too, since most of the people on my server want to try out the new features, but don't want to lose what they have built since I started the 1.8.1 map.

Interesting ... Thanks ...

I'd consider running a 2nd server, but the box I'm running my server on is quite ancient .... old p4 with 1.4gb of ram ... got 512mb ramdrive for the map, 512mb ram for the game, and then 384mb for the OS, ventrilo server, apache (for maps), etc ... I could always stick another gb of ram in there, but it's kinda hard to find cheap Registered ECC DDR.... Guess I'll just stick with me 1.81 map for now

Any tips for someone just getting into Minecraft? I'm curious about the various options (video, etc.) that you can mess with. The game told me I should use Java 64-bit, so I found a how-to guide online and did that. Also, as a brand new player, is "Normal" difficulty likely to be pretty unforgiving/frustrating starting out? I have very limited knowledge of the game, other than watching some gameplay videos on Youtube, etc.

Survival mode should be fine to start with, just make sure you find or make shelter (eg A four-walled 'house' higher than two blocks) before dark, the monsters will be scary at first. I never messed with any of the java business, I heard it did make it faster being 64-bit though. A decent texture pack might be worth looking for, just make sure it's updated for version 1.0.0.

What about Field of View (FOV)? I'm using a 23" 1080p monitor. Is the default value of 70 good? Or should I bump it up a little?

FOV is entirely up to personal preference. There is no "correct" FOV for your monitor size or resolution, but only what feels best to you.

Thankfully the FOV in Minecraft is adjustable. I prefer 90. If you want to go nuts though, you can crank it up to 110.

Thanks for updating the server! The command don't seem to be working though, such as /home or even /sethome.

I've yet to purchase anything from the holiday sale, nothing really appealing from today, for me. Plus my cheap brother already has minecraft !
