I don't understand that either. Minecraft is 3D and it is not flash.

I guess he meant to say he is a graphics whore who is spoiled by the good graphics of today?

Or maybe he somehow ran across a weird flash version of MC?

Alright, so today I finally got around to purchasing Minecraft. I'm still figuring things out.

What I know so far is that I can dig up blocks of dirt, and lay them in other places. I realized that there are monsters that come out at night, so I started a new game and barricaded myself in a cave so the monsters wouldn't get me. I stood there and waited, while I heard creepy noises outside, and I popped a small hole in the wall so I could check to see if it was morning yet. I assumed the monsters would go away when the sun went up, but it didn't happen, they kept digging at my cave so I just jumped out and tried to kill them. I was unsuccessful.

I also spent some time beating up animals. I see that the pigs give you health, the chickens give you a feather (?) and the sheep give you this weird block of wool.

Yeah, I'm kind of lost.

Skeletons and Zombies catch on fire in the sun. Spiders should become non-aggressive (their eyes won't be red). I think creepers are the only one that will still hate you in the day and attempting to go hand to hand with them is a lost cause. However, you could have exited your cave from another wall, didn't need to go out the same way you went in, that mentality is built into you from other games, you gotta think more open ended.

You can cook the ham you get from pigs, chickens do give you feathers - save them, and sheep wool can be used as a building material oddly enough.

Damnit, I swear the entire bottom level of my world is missing Diamond. I've found 4 blocks and the only reason I found them is because I started mining a 1x2 tunnel straight in 1 direction forever.

There are a bunch of different strategies for mining. My strategy is to dig down to the bedrock and then create a grid of tunnels, thoroughly exploring any cave networks I intersect. I've also seen some pretty creative mineshafts w/ carts.

What is amazing is that this game is made by a single person and has sold more than 100.000 copies.

Minecraft is what a lot of people have wanted for a long time, freedom to fuck with the world around them. Not the illusion of it, the real ability. It is real sandbox and I think people are eating that up. The smart thing however is how Notch was able to deliver this feature in a very low-maintenance package. It's a perfect example of compromises and biting off only what you can chew.

Josh, I've been following caves non stop all the way to the bedrock. However, right now I am in an absolutely massive cave about 12 tiles up from bedrock and there is lava everywhere. So what I've been doing is glass-flooring all the lava, so that I know where I should be careful digging around. Eventually I hope to have this even floor with lots of glass in it that I can move around it. My hope was that if I still knew where the lava was, I'd be able to find diamonds, but that hasn't proven true at all.

I definitely need some mine carts....

Yeah, I bought a copy of the alpha today. It has some of the best gameplay ever in a PC game IMO. My name is DharnDragon in it.

It was worth the 13 bucks for it.

This multiplayer would be epic. They are taking big strides to getting inventories and things stored server side.

It is a good game now just to F' around in. However, it has massive potential.

yea, the server world is stored locally on the server machine. The server owner can copy a single player world into the multiplayer world files and use it for multiplayer though. On the other side, they can send you the multiplayer world to play single player IIRC.

Hey Guys.

There are a ton of multiplayer Server's to utilize.

Lets Unify and all join a normal Server. Which one? I have no clue. Suggestions?

I bought it last night, just to have something to mess around with. The first map I loaded made me want to hollow out an entire mountain.

+ Added server-side inventory
+ Made the server save player locations when they leave the server
+ Made chests work in SMP
+ Made signs work in SMP
+ Made furnaces work in SMP
+ Added monsters=false to server.properties. You can turn it on for experimental monsters, but you can’t hurt them directly yet. (Fire works, though!)
