Not really.

To be honest, you don't even notice the graphics after you're addicted to it.

The graphics are great for this kind of game.

I find this to be true with most games. Occasionally with some games, like RPG's, you'll enter a new area you've never been before, and temporarily be wow'd by the eye-candy, but then your focus will recenter on the task(s) at hand.

I will admit I was pretty shocked with how archaic the graphics are in this game after seeing all the chatter in this thread then clicking on a link to see what it was all about.

I think the graphics kind of grow on you. Because I think minecraft looks amazing.

The view you get from a mountaintop of the world is baffling.
The view you get when you encounter huuuge cave makes you feel insignificant.

This games worldgen is its true beauty.

And I have bought it after some publicity on reddit.
After last Fridays update SMP has become much more likable and I am having loads of fun with it.

I have had waaaay more than 10 euros of fun out of it. I am recommending everyone of my friends to get it.

Yeah, the free version is a much older build that doesn't have monsters or crafting I don't think. Plus, the world building engine in the later version of the game makes the free version look pretty boring in comparison.

So after reading this thread, I managed to get my brother and 3 friends to purchase it. We now have a server we play on and have started massive mining operations plus dwelling construction.
The only issues we have are the issues they are working on Server side. Invincibility and no aggros make the game easy. We prefer to barricade ourselves in for protection but it's not needed yet.

We're in the process of making a rail line connect three mountain tops (where we each built and have mining operations going) but laying track down crashes the server. Can't wait until these bugs are fixed!

I bought it today, figured it was worth checking out with all the hype surrounding it lately. I must say, it's strange. Hopefully with all of the success the author has had lately, he'll really be able to starting putting some serious work into it. I read somewhere that the guy is hiring a team now.

I don't care if they ever improve the graphics, that's clearly not the point of the game. What I'd like to see more of is recipes. There should be hundreds of things you can build. It's definitely got potential.

I agree BoberFett, I'd like to see more recipes surrounding mining as well. The ability to ramp up your mining operations would be a lot of fun.

- Pulleys
- Ways to move massive amounts of material to the surface
- Ways to remove more material quickly, short of dynamite
- Better mine carts, possibly even trains
- Better use of lava as a fuel source
- More danger the deeper you go and bedrock should be constantly dangerous
- A way to spectate someone else playing on your server

Lots of great ideas have been kicked around. I'd love to see him implement most of them.

It's pretty limited, but there are monsters.

More than worth the 12 bucks, if you like just messing around and relaxing. I finally got to spend some quality time with it the last two nights, and it is a blast.

I'd be in too, I haven't really tried the Creative or SMP modes yet, so it'd be a good change of pace.

I dabbled in server making for minecraft, but I don't think my connection can handle more than 4 people or so.

So after building my EPIC castle on top of a high mountain, I went out and did some exploring. Long story short, I got lost. I cant find my epic castle. I read on the wiki that I could make a compass, but I need to set a point first. Since the map is pretty much randomly generated, does that mean I lost my castle once I left sight of it?

The compass will point you back to your original spawn point. So if you built your stuff at or near your spawn point, then you're good (or if you know the way from your spawn point).

Your stuff is still there. If all else fails, there's a mapping program that maps out your minecraft world. You can use that and attempt to find your way back. I had to use that on occasion before there was a compass.

can't you set your spawn point to the castle? i see all these videos of people getting lost and unable to find their hideout, why aren't they setting the spawn point on their hideout?
