a friend used netpbm to convert it for me.

I was unable to resize or convert it on my own using photoshop, xnview, or any of the other image viewers i tried.

man, you guys made the world/map so retarded. lol
Thanks. That fixed it for me to view.

And yeah, if Krakn makes a new world at some point, please not run off for 30 minutes in one direction. I can see going a bit away to build or discover, but even 10 minutes out you can get a good bit away. It probably blows up the map size a lot.

What is currently bugging me is that I went, oh maybe 5 minutes or so north of the spawn, walked in a straight line until i found an area I liked. There was I mountain or 2 that I could cut into, and a little lake, and it was all good. Fast forward maybe a week or so and then there were like 2-3 people building other, large structures within view of my stuff, which was the whole thing I was trying to avoid. If Krakn does fire up a new server, I may build a huge torched tower to emphasize the mine-ness of the area or something.

Build a wall around your area. That's what I ended up doing. Someone decided to make their house 10 blocks away from mine so I put up a huge wall all around my area.

It's one thing if you build close to spawn; that's like asking other people to build next to you. It's another thing if you go a good distance away from spawn, but people still come next to you and build.

My current problem is that I don't know how big of an area I wanted, so that is why I went that far from the spawn. Look at the new map that krakn put out, see that large u shaped structure straight up from the spawn? That is the greenhouse, once it is done, I am planning on building a house across the little lake from it, and the maybe a library. All in all, a little village of sorts.

Added a waypoint mod that allows for users to create their own personal waypoints. All users can use it.

Looks like I was also able to fix the vortex pool of death and java exceptions I created by putting a giant, hollow stone sphere over the top of it.

Minecraft users go wild building CPUs in their virtual world (video)

So, apparently this is what a functioning 16-bit arithmetic logic unit looks like... at least when it is designed in Minecraft. And that ain't the half of it! It seems that there are a whole bunch of folks who are taking the game, with its avatars, pitchforks, and immense landscape, and building computers and the like. Indeed, there is also a complete 8-bit CPU out there, which takes binary machine code and sends output to a line of torches. While we'd rather spend our time teaching our avatars to breakdance in Second Life, we do admire the hard work that clearly went into these projects. For a tutorial on the 8-bit CPU, hit up the source link. For more info on either of these projects, check out the folks' YouTube pages -- we've thoughtfully included the videos after the break.

Looks like notch updated the client and server just in the last little while, which broke the Hey0 server mod for now. Currently just running the vanilla server from notch until an update to Hey0 is out, so all the cool plugin stuff is out of commission until then.

Someone in the Minecraft forums said that hey0 is on vacation this week, so it could be a few days before he updates the server mod and we can add everything back. I'm subscribed to his thread tho, so as soon as the update is out, I'll get it installed on the server. In the meantime, we're going to be working with a pretty barebones server.

First of all, most “mods” that add new features to the game are in a very gray area legally, and I frown upon them. Most of them add really cool new features, though. It’s highly likely that something like the bridge mod will make it into the game.
This worries me. An indie developer frowning upon mods seems a little hypocritical.

Why? Its still alpha build and what if he already was going to implement an idea and here comes johnny codemonkey who does it first and now johnny codemonkey thinks he had original thought and trys to sue?

Well I'm sure given the popularity he needs to look out for his IP. I seen some posts on the Minecraft forums with Java code which unless the person just wrote up as an example, maybe they used some kind of decompiler to get it? He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who wants to lock down everything, and as evidence he seems to have just put in some great support for 3rd party textures. I can understand him wanting to control the features of Minecraft at least until he gets a more polished product where he could put in some proper support for mods.

I think as an indie developer, he's right to be worried about code being injected directly into his code, which is what he was speaking to. It could potentially allow people to bypass server authentication on his end completely, which quickly opens the door to more piracy.

He has no problem with plugins from what I can tell, since they run independently of the Minecraft application files themselves.

Anyone else having block reappear after you destroy them on krakns server?

Seems to be an issue with notch's update, happens whether or not I'm running the hey0 server mod. Hopefully notch will fix it soon, it does get annoying.

I'm glad I'm not he only one. It is really annoying. Sometimes the block will reappear twice before I can destroy it.

Bleh, rebooted and got "Installing 1 of 77 updates"

Almost done

This is becoming quite the "city." Totally reminds me of Sim City 2000 when looking at that map.
