so, I had been waiting for that Vizio 4K TV that someone linked earlier...it was never in the "upcoming list" all day long.

Left the desk to go do some other work for about 30 minutes, came back...it was now in the sale and sold out (apparently $599.00, 22% off).

what a crock of horse shit. I think the fix is on. I'm doubting this was ever up for sale, legit.

I actually got that (at $599). The only way I knew about it was from a SlickDeals thread that had been posted earlier in the day, though. So I had the actual product page open, refreshed at the right time, and the Lightning Deal price showed up. I don't think it was ever in the Upcoming list.

The sale wouldn't have been half bad without all the hype.

Amazon themselves claimed it was going to be bigger than Black Friday. In my opinion it fell WELL short.

The handful of things I wanted were gone in seconds.

The few things I might have been interested in looked like junk. There were some I almost bought but wound up spending zip.

The Stanley 16 oz 1-Handed Stainless Steel Hot Mug deal I missed I was able to find at walmart at the same price. Walmarts eight o'clock whole bean coffee is also a few cents cheaper per ounce but their largest is only 36 oz. versus amazon's 42 oz.

I'm still on the waiting list for the kindle and can't get on the list for the fire stick.

I hate you!

I knew about it because it was posted in this thread, so I also had the product page open. ...oh, well, I had the page open for the 50" TV, not the 49" (seriously--who the fuck produces a 49" TV...especially if they make a 50" TV? This makes no sense)

Anyway, I was also checking the "upcoming sales" constantly, and it was never there. Only some garbage "sound bar" doohicky that no one should own. I left computer work to go to normal science work for about 30 minutes, and then it showed up on the sale page as...sold out. wtf.

Anyway, ti would have been a dicey buy for me: would have to ship to DC (where I'll be moving in ~2 months) to a possible work address and find some way to get it from there to the apartment, all while on the other coast. Also, $500 was my target. whatever.

bad sale imo. too much filler and not enough good deals that were accessible. there needs to be a better way to curate the deals. maybe something like steam with the curated pages. it was easier for me to wait for someone to post a deal on something than try to scroll through the active deals that weren't already sold out.

I really think the sale was rigged. I have a number of items I had opened that went out of stock immediately....that is, until the time of their sale was over, then mysteriously, they had tons of stock at regular price.

PS. The prices were higher on sale than what I paid 2 years ago.

The sale was a joke. Anyone trying to defend it well BWAHAHAHHA.

I was setting up an event today so initially I was bummed about not being able to stay current with the deals...but after a few glances at my phone, I stopped caring. I picked up a tiny Sandisk 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive yesterday for $10 or whatever and was pretty happy about that.

The only thing that caught my eye was the Anova and even then it wasn't a big enough of a sale to make me "have" to buy it.

The one thing that caught my attention was a Sony Flash Drive 16GB @ $5.99.
Added to my cart and went to check out and the price in cart had jumped to $12.
The going full price, btw.
Deleted, closed amazon browser, nothing lost nothing gained.
Good try amazon. You almost had me fooled. hehe

Yet they still managed to sell 3x what they do on a normal July day ^_^

Yea..crazy right? It's like the Ebay bidding syndrome. Number of people here who bought stuff they didn't even want, just to say they bought something. I suppose cheaper than normal, even if it is just a few dollars is still a sale, but the way they promoted it was obviously bait and switch and a bit on the shady side.

Fortunately I had to work today and shopping behind a corporate firewall using ancient IE 8.x, insufficient RAM is super slow, glitchy and just sucks when you have 6+ tabs open.

So I only ordered 2 things this and something for my wife.

Well I survived the storm - if we can agree to call it that - by spending $0.00. Back to Slickdeals and Woot!
