Can anyone else not access Gmail using Chrome?

Also the java support is pretty terrible.

I don't plan on using it - ever. The amount of data that google keeps is frankly scary, and I don't wish to contribute to it.

Im using it right now. I like it except the same complaint everyone has compared to firefox, no great plugins yet. But since my firefox keeps randomly crashing and I dont like opera im stuck with it for the time being.

i see google ruling the world, with all the information they have collected. half scared, but google has been good to us so far, maybe they aren't happy enough yet?

no comment on the browser, i will continue to test it for a few days.

Google Chrome looks great, i'm using it as my browser of choice right now and the speed is great, only problem is that Javascript seems not to work well, if at all, Javascript heavy sites like Facebook are pretty much crippled.

Looking at IE8, it seems great and I'm willing to give it a try as soon as it goes gold since IE installs usually take a bit more PITA work with longer download times and annoying installs that might require a reboot IIRC.

I'll be waiting for 3 things:

1 and 2: an adblocker for chrome and websites rendering properly
3: firefox to go separate processes for it's tabs as well (if google can do it, how hard can it be?)

I suspect that #3 will drive people back to firefox quite a bit, although it'd be nice to have it be optional/add some intelligence to it so that excess of tabs doesn't create a ridiculous number of processes.

Meanwhile, competition between good browsers and companies is always welcome

What makes you think a large number of processes is ridiculous if they're actually doing something? If I have 20 tabs open, it's not ridiculous to have 20 processes... even if I have the same page open in each of the 20 tabs.

I do think Google is reinventing computer science in a way. They have come out with elegant solutions to solve complex problems. They delve into areas that many are afraid to venture into (like using multiple processes).

I also love the simplicity of the app in general. Complexity represents a weakness in presentation.

The scroll buttons on my laptop don't work at all. When I hit the down button I get the goddamn windows "error" sound. Shut the fuck up and scroll, you piece of shit.

I had that happen to me when I put FF3 on my laptop. Its like the touchpad driver has to support the scrolling in newer browsers. This seems to be the case, but I cannot say for sure.

Also the lack of a google toobar is pretty stupid. I love the google bookmarks feature, now I save every webpage that I think I might want to go back to. My categories are definitely getting into the hundreds. Also with the google toolbar you can click on mailto: links and a gmail compose tab will open up. Thanks Jeffwo for the bookmarks instructions. I don't think I'll be getting much into Chrome though...

i'm not leaving opera just yet. chrome is nice, but it's a little too spartan as of now. missing too many features. i'll try the final verison.

I'm waiting on the day 0 vulnerabilities to get worked out before I touch it with a 10 ft pole.

(it's "keep it beta forever so we don't have to support it" Google software..you know there are some)

IE 8 and FF3 are going at it tooth and nails. They'll both turn out great because of it and they both know that they better have security done right or they'll be crucified.

Nothing because I have to plans to install the browser. Personally, I see no benefit on my part when someone has the ability to capture what I type before I hit the ENTER key. In my opinion if somebody else implemented such a feature, everyone would yell malware. However since it is Google, the browsing habits of users will be questioned instead. Anyway, I simply choose not to support such a product.

+1
If M/S or Mozilla had written a EULA like this the screaming would be deafening.

Add me to this!!

They need to add Mozilla Firefox plugin compatibility as well as allow you to import bookmarks from FF. If it can I didn't see it and I played with it for an hour this morning. Just do not like the whole way it feels. Definitely looks confusing using a bookmarks toolbar when that is the first thing I turn off in a browser. And no ad/flash blocking? Pffft. FF3.1 is imo moving to a better solution for improving web page display speed.

1) Uhh, Chrome imports your FF bookmarks on the first boot. If you if you manage to botch that, you can import your bookmarks from the tools button (the wrench) and select "Import Bookmarks and Settings"

2) My post right above your shows how to block ads in Chrome.

i use it for gmail, keep it on a separate browser seems fine to me. its fast for gmail compared to firefox.
i find that during multitasking i wish i had a bigger border at the top to click. accidentally dragging tabs off is annoying.
and lack of mouse gestures....

1) Well, the version I downloaded yesterday only has an option to download bookmarks from IE. I have three installs of FF on my machine. Perhaps then this experience of mine is a bug.

2) Thanks. I'll try again when I get home from work tonight.

I use GMailManager addon in FF on an Athlon XP 2GHz and gmail loads nearly instantly onto a new tab when I click on new mail in FF3.0 and previous versions. The addon isn't compatible with 3.1 yet so I have not tried it there. I wonder why it is slow on your machine.

One thing about FF since 3.0 is this weird way you can drag and drop pictures off the screen into different programs, including explorer. Took me some getting used to at first. I imagine the tab dragging is just as annoying at first.

Is there a way to run Incognito mode by default or with a startup shortcut switch?

Is there an option to disable or manually control the automatic updates?
