it's sunday in australia and i've spoken with no more than 3 people in the last 9 hours, i'm about to bang my head through my desk in frustration, so,

who's watching Constantine?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3489184/

i think it's so-so, imo the main actor (Matt Ryan, of such fame as "voice actor in AC4" and "some guy in Criminal Minds, 3 years ago") isn't up to scratch, but since i LOVED the original comic book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellblazer i'll gladly watch the tv adaptation.

and you ?

I sorta watched the first 3 or 4 episodes... then I found out the Fall was on at the same time, so I'm watching that and DVRing Z Nation now.

They swapped out the female lead in the pilot, which was weird.

I'm following it, and enjoying it. Not the greatest show ever but it's fun enough.

I loved the movie, haven't even started looking at the series myself.

Have always been leery of mainstream TV adaptations I guess.

I also liked the movie... Apparently, it's supposed to have sucked.

I dunno, it was an overall enjoyable and mostly good movie (frankly, I loved it, but I can see and acknowledge the shortcomings). The issue some had with it, was the fact that it was not an accurate portrayal/adaptation of the source.

This TV show appears to be pleasing fans with a closer adaptation, but it has its own shortcomings.

I'm watching it.. The movie was pretty good, but the show appears to be sort of a trite monster of the week kind of thing. I'm waiting to see if a meaningful story arc develops.

They're ever so carefully hinting at a meaningful arc, but yep, the typical detective-like case of the week approach is a little annoying.

person of interest stared the same way, then went into the long story arc with the machine, then with the other machine, now back to monster of the week.

The movie wasn't that bad. I had high hopes for this show. It's very loosely based on the movie. This could be good or bad. In this case it's very bad. The scripts are all over the place. The main actor is British (Wales), talks too much, and most of his dialogue you can't understand. Does he speak English?
I stopped watching it after the 3rd episode.

It's not based on the movie.

It's based on the same source material the movie used, and is actually a little more accurate. The story is loosely based on the Hellblazer comic series (and possibly the Constantine series that has replaced it).

yes, it's true that it's more accurate to the source material (which is one of the best comics ever written), but imo the keanu reeves film was better at portraying the character of john constantine.

Those can be interesting if done right, I remember this one from long ago that was like that, and I watched ever one when they were on.

Might have to watch them again now that you reminded me of them, but I'm sure very dated.

Hero In An Old Straw Hat. 18 August 2006 | by a_l_i_e_n (Canada) – See all my reviews
A brilliantly entertaining series that ran for a single shining season in the 1970's, "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" concerned a Chicago reporter whose investigations invariably lead him into dangerous encounters with the paranormal.

Starring the incomparable (and irreplaceable) Darren McGavin, this smartly written show has been described by some as being "campy", and while a couple of episodes ("The Youth Killer" and the much more amusing "The Trevi Collection") may have strayed far enough into that territory to qualify as camp, this was actually a series with two distinct parts. Half of the show was a situation comedy (the scenes taking place in the INS office between Kolchak and Vincenzo were particularly amusing), and the other half was a straight-faced thriller that featured some genuinely frightening scenes of horror.

Quite a maverick among television shows of the day, "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" noticeably parted company with established convention regarding what qualifies a character to fill the role of a hero. Common practice dictates that your basic TV good guy will be conventionally handsome, good with his fists and fearless in the sight of danger. Some are rich and reside in fabulously appointed surroundings and often find themselves the focus of unflagging admiration from a cheering section of supporting characters.

Then there's Carl Kolchak. A far sight from the usual male model-type lead, this average-looking guy doesn't work for a big league paper, but instead pounds away at his typewriter in a somewhat rundown news bureau office. He has no family and the only people who seem even remotely close to him are a gray-haired advice columnist and a short-tempered managing editor who's usually bellowing at him to drop his latest crazy story.

Also rare for a TV hero: he doesn't even carry a gun. In fact, when faced with danger, Carl sometimes runs away in stark raving terror.

Furthermore, he's generally reviled by public officials, and after vanquishing something evil from our midst, he never even gets any credit for having risked his neck.

Armed only with a camera, a tape recorder and his wits, Carl Kolchak certainly doesn't sound very formidable. And yet, somehow, this cynical, middle-aged news hound in a seersucker suit and beat-up straw hat is the greatest foe any vampire or blood-thirsty creature of the night ever came up against. Sure, he may not get that Pulitzer prize, but for his uncanny abilities at ridding the world of one monster after another, this unlikely hero surely ranks as one of the most unique and marvelously ironic characters in the history of television.

If you're interested, reviews of all 20 episodes can be found by clicking the a_l_i_e_n link above.

Sorry, wasn't trying to derail, but without even seeing it sounds like it Constantine might be running along similar lines, which isn't a bad thing.

Going to for grins and giggles, even being as old as they are has a 8.3 IMDB.

Blame comic book nerds. They hate everything.

"Oh, at 23:31 you can clearly see how Character Y was wearing different color shoes than was shown in Issue 86, page 12. Therefore the whole thing was an abomination."

Halfway through the first.

John isnt smoking.
Chas isnt a cockney.
The dynamic between Heaven/Hell/Humanity seems very different to the comic.
