Why a black lawyer is afraid to deliver a package mistakenly left at his house

UPS drops a package at the home of a black lawyer who lives in a white neighborhood. It was a mistake and was meant for a house on the next block. Lawyer's son was going to take it to the correct house but father decided to call UPS instead. Why, young black male approaching a home of upscale white family would put his son's life at risk. Police could be called, homeowners could accuse him of being a thug and just shoot him.

Incidents like the father fear are becoming a reality at an increasing rate. Just existing as a person of color is being criminalized in this country.

I'm not arguing your point, just want to add that as a white guy, I was once confronted with a gun for doing the exact same thing. I believe there is a level of paranoia inherent in the elderly, infirm and/or solitary folks when it comes to self-protection, and lately the rash of package theft sure doesn't help things. It makes pining those kinds of reactions completely on racism difficult IMO.

The college tour bullshit and the 14yr needing directions both point to a side of racism I don't see brought up much though: this need to accommodate racist females who act in distress. There is a hair trigger built in for the male side there that needs to be addressed (one of many).

Fellas: No one is saying not to protect your family or not come to a lady's aid, just keep in mind that sometimes bitches be crazy and everyone just needs to settle the hell down.

They made the mistake. it's their responsibility to deliver the package to the correct address.

BTW Arizona is an open carry state, a black kid doing the right thing could get shot in a white neighborhood.

This happens every day in my neighborhood. The mailman sucks and every day Nextdoor has a thread: "I'm missing a pkg, anybody got it? "Yep, I got it, I'll bring it over". Or someone posts a thank you to "whoever dropped off our package". No one gets shot, the police don't get called, everyone goes home safe.

It's a nicer neighborhood north of SAT. 60% white, 35% Hispanic, 5% black.

Of course it's Texas and we're all armed to the fucking teeth.

I have never gave the NRA money. I don't watch anything related to FOX for news..

I live in an area of SF with mostly Asian and Black. When people knock on my door I don't grab any weapon..
