It's a serious statement, without calling any members out; some have complained how little they have in life already.

Who is going to make them a target?

Owning insurance makes you a target.

Maybe don't try harder, just try better.

Well I wouldn't peg someone with a 1978 beater as a cash cow, chances are they have the least amount of coverage allowed and from a horrible company.

I carry 100/300/100 plus un/underinsured motorist of 50/100.

My car is 1 year old.

Meanwhile many here are struggling in life and going out buying handguns for protection, cameras for security and other things worth far more than what they have to lose.

Doesn't make sense other than love of gadgets.

i got rear ended by some stupid bitch who i'm 99% sure was looking down at her phone when she hit me, and then when we got out of the car she tried to lie about someone hitting the back of her car causing her to bump into me, when her bumper had absolutely no damage but mine had the frame sticking through it. she then had the nerve to ask me if i was sure i didn't have any damage to my bumper before she hit me. i called the cops for this little fender bender because of how shady she was being.

dash cam wouldn't have helped me in that instance (obviously) but i've wanted one for a while, just because of all the awful drivers in the DMV area. thing is, i don't want one always hanging on my windshield or dash, and i don't want to have to always hook it up and put it out to use it. seems like a hassle.

Are most of you even at risk for a scammer? I doubt they focus on beater cars.

why limit it to just scammers? helps cover you with regard to accidents in general.

a couple months ago, some lady hit my car and totally fucked up my bumper while she was pulling out of her parking spot (I was stopped, adjacent, at a red light). of course, when the cops came, she died everything and claimed she was nowhere near me.

thankfully the cops believed me when the report came down, but a cam would have saved me some stress if I'd had total proof of the accident instead of just he said/she said.

(I don't have one in my current car, but it's something I'm strongly considering when I get a new one in a couple years)

I keep looking at that video and thinking "Wow, all of those jerks passing on the right would be cited if the police saw that.

Same video.

First car exits at last second, cutting second car off, causing second car to stop, camera vehicle hits second vehicle from behind.

I don't see the scam.

I see following too close and not paying attention.

Unless there's more info?

First car does make a quick left turn but he's already in front of the 2nd car and doesn't brake-check him at all, 2nd car slams on his brakes for no reason at all except for the sole purpose of getting rammed from behind, fraudsters like to use semi-trucks or any vehicle working for a Co. because they know that they will have heavy insurance policies in place to protect themselves, try that trick with Joe six-pack and you might wind up getting hit by someone with little or no insurance policy and therefore no chance of a large $$ payout.

A dashcam would have helped my wife when a scammer on the highway cut her off and then slammed on the brakes. When she refused to hand over any info until the cops arrived, they bailed. Cop said it was a common scam to try to extort insurance money, and in this case, since they disappreared, they were probably felons and/or had no license and/or illegals, etc...

Just bought a G1W myself.

I had a dashcam and used it for months until one night I forgot to remove it and had to walk 15 minutes to my car because of the fear I had of someone breaking in to steal it.

These things need to be smaller.

Yeah that was messed up, sadly down here in S. FL 4x4's and SUVs will pass on the shoulders as traffic slows down during rush out to just squeeze in a spot or two up.

I have been sued like this. Having a cam or not wouldn't have changed much for me.

They went for $1MM but agreed to just settle for $10k.

Dash cam or not sadly will not have an insurance company pursue it.

My rates and safe driver clause never changed.

Many should keep in mind (at least with their attitudes here) that a dash cam can also be used against you.

If one is worried about their car being broken into for one then it's probably not a great idea.

I'm looking for a dash cam that looks discrete because I'm afraid of it getting stolen. Does anyone have recommendations?

That's what the scammers want you to see.

Now look more closely.

Car 2 is following very close behind Car 1 but in the same lane.
Car 1 pulls onto the off ramp without slowing down.
Car 2 slams on the brakes and comes to a complete stop, even though car 1 has now disappeared and is no longer in front.

Note that car 1 does NOT cut off car 2 - they were in the same lane to start with.

The maneuver is staged so that it looks like car 1 cut off car 2 while turning off from the middle lane.

Agree 100%. The car tapped the brakes a couple times, then braked and the bus or whatever it was hit it. Totally the fault of the vehicle that hit them.

Except that the WHOLE story found the person hit and more than likely the accomplice had set this kind of thing up prior.

They try to make these 'accident's look real.

In my case it was a single driver. Waited past two red lights (it's an off ramp with no shoulder so you can't just drive around). Then on the next green light he waits until it turns red and FLOORS it. The traffic signals are not for our lanes, but the lanes next to use (for a left hand turn across traffic)

This merge is being redesigned actually as it's dangerous...you pretty much have to go when you can, but on a green light (it's actually a green light for the next lane over sheltering the lane from oncoming traffic, much safer).

So he floors it and then stops short. I am only doing about 20mph by this point and try to get out his way and out of the way of oncoming traffic with someone stopping in a main lane. He tracked me in his rearview mirror. I almost stopped in time.

His car was a total beater old Mustang LX coupe from the 80's I believe in primer and rust. The only real damage was his tail pipe got bent down. My car was really f'd up since it was low to the ground and my front end was very high priced ($6000 in damage).

The driver that was trying to fix his car at the time of accident first sat inside for 5-10 mins making phone calls. Every emergency service showed up. It was crazy. Even more crazy as soon as you could hear sirens he dropped to the ground behind the vehicle and started screaming at the top of his lungs.

He was taken by ambulance to the ER, his girlfriend and her daughter (15yo) to the ER by ambulance the next morning. They saw a lawyer/chiropractor that have seen been arrested for fraud twice a day every day for nearly 2 months.

It was settled for $10k, they wanted $300k for each person and claimed 30% or higher full disability.

It took about 6 months or so to work through it all.

Are there portable versions? I need one I can take with me when I'm done with my shift. I drive an eighteen wheeler and it'd be smart for me to have one.
