I love this thread. I first used iTunes in 1998 when I bought my first computer (an orange iMac). That was the last time I used that crappy, bloated POS software. I can see it hasn't gotten better in years. Hatred of iTunes is why I stay away from Apple products.

Itunes sucks indeed...

Unfortunately, I got an iphone 4, and 'copytrans' which I used on my 3g doesn't work w\ itunes. I just don't like the whole sync process. I want to be able to just add and remove stuff as I want to, not have itunes whipe out my device, or put tons of stuff on it that I don't want on it.

I've had to go through my alblum list and rank stuff as 5 star and then add highest ranked stuff to sync list because I can't figure out any other way to add things without adding everything on my computer.

I don't hate itunes that much, but no folder monitoring is just criminal.

Smart Playlists
Or, regular playlists
Or, enable 'Manually Manage files' and drag what you want from your library to the device.
Or, use the checkboxes next to each song.

If it's like the ipods, you can go to the device and select manually add files. I don't use itunes for anything except adding music to mine, and I only do that because I haven't found anything easier.

Simple truth is Apple music apps are just for the average user that just wants something to listen to and doesn't care about quality or knows it when he's listening to it anyway.

Also iTunes is a bloat piece of crap that can't even compare to the sonic quality of Foobar.

Well if you've ever listened to anything higher quality then 128 and you've got ears then you'll notice the difference. So with this thought in mind, lower quality bitrate to higher, Cowon is the same, Apple is 128 and Cowon is 320 or better yet, Cowon is FLAC!

Get a Cowon, and get a quality player and dump the apple crap!

The only + Ive found using iTunes was the multithredded ripping (faster).
The downsides are.
Running in the background when not using it, I had to hack it out of the registry along with Quicktime so drivers and whatnot would not be running in the background on boot up.
Cant get cover art unless your part of iTunes online, F' that, Media player will look for it and at least let you import it if you have an image.
As mentioned above you cant play via catagory type, Album, Type ect.
Slow all around.
Wont auto add new songs or even have a button to rescan, Have to delete its catalog manualy restart and wait hrs while it rescans the whole library again.
Wont use album art from other rip sorces.
Cant find songs it just listed in your library (has a + next to it, You follow the path it has, Its there but it still cant see it.
Corrupting the library (In win XP and win7-64) Nothing like having to re-rip 6000+ again and again (now burned down to DVDs)
The lockup on any song it thinks (It thinks is the key word) might be corrupted or pirated.

I personaly cant find a way to dual pane for drag and drop, have to constanly switch between ipod and library to see what I already have on it.

Things I hate about my ipod (I belive its a shuffle 2"x3", 3rg gen I cant remember what mdl it is)
Doesnt show cover art except 2 cd's when itunes shows them.
Cant delete songs, wtf is up with that.
The random song play is wierd, I hear patters and themes in its playing (like a two for tuesday).
Random will not play all songs.
The touch ring sensor is whack sometimes or maybe its sensative to ghost, Nothing like having your music volume go up and down randomly.
Oh yeah, It will not play or will jump from songs it thinks (Key word here is thinks) might be pirated or corrupted (even though I just ripped it with iTunes).

I find that Apple has to make iTune propriatary is because no one would use it at all if they had other choices.

Itunes is pure evil for those of us who like to do things our own ways.. Itunes is so damn restrictive and controlling.. As with everything Apple, they aim to make it their way or the highway as much as possible..

I won an ipod in a raffle or I would have never even bothered trying it until my wife got an iphone...

Rockbox is the only way to go with the ipods. Awesome stuff..
http://www.rockbox.org/

For the Iphone, Copytrans enables me to keep my dealings with Itunes to an absolute minimum.. http://www.copytrans.net/copytransmanager.php

My 2 complaints with iTunes (and I have to use it as I have an iPhone) are:

It can be buggy. I had a problem where it wasnt showing up on screen. It'd be there in task manager but thats all. I had to reinstall the whole thing, which is a pain when you've customized the album data. Which leads me to my 2nd point:

Customized IDE data isnt saved to the song! iTunes saves it, but if you look at the actual MP3 it still has the same faulty data. (Think songs that have their album listed incorrectly). So if you ever reinstall iTunes or give the MP3s to a friend, they're still all messed up. If you edit via Windows, the actual ID3 tags are changed.

On a tangent, iTunes store can be horridly annoying as well. But thats a separate problem...

Agreed, this is irritating that it does not clean up ID2 and ID3 tags and imbed artwork in the files.

One of the things that I find annoying about iTunes is the custom interface. Apple has been slow to update it so on Windows Vista the support for Aero Snap, for instance, is inconsistent. There are many times when I have a maximized window and am not able to unmaximize it simply be dragging it down. Apple does a good job of mimicking their Mac interface, but in doing so doesn't respect Windows user interface conventions.

Back then it was difficult to disable 'iTunesHelper.exe' , which used to eat cpu without asking the user nicely if it can eat away computers resources.

Glad you like it. i really like that I can find metadata for music with mediamonkey and embed within the files. It also drives me nuts that iTunes used to read the artwork and now some files iTunes 10 cannot. Maybe a bug but mediamonkey works better.

Also if I rate a file in mediamonkey it was carry to another PC with media monkey. iTunes does not do this, although it might if the library is copied to another computer.

Because apple software sucks big time. If you install apple software on a PC your gonna get bloatware malware and a crappy interface and crappy performance.

Even if you have a iPod , no need to install iTunes,, just copy drag over your music to the folder. sighs,

wow, hyperbole much?

Also, dragging music onto an iPod will not work.

I ran into this one and was so annoyed by the inability ot iTunes to handle it gracefully that I returned my 8gb iTouch and bought a 32gb
It pains me to say it because as far as I'm concerned Apple is one of the worst companies on the planet, but the iPod Touch is simply the best MP3 player available (those idiots at MS never released the Zune HD in my country or I would have one of them).

Yo DO know that Creative Zen and X-fi players are much better at audio reproduction than iPod devices, don't you???

Not to mention that the headphones also make a world of difference...

see
http://forums.digitaltrends.com/showthread.php?t=13296 (the "sound" section in particular)
http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread...5g-or-creative-zen-quick-answers-pleaseeeeeee (from post #5 onwards)'

Not to mention the newer Creative players will play more codecs than the Apple devices.

I find the Zune sync model FAR preferrable to the iCrap model; I've got my Zune HD for music, and my iPhone for the rest. Also, I'm SO SICK of every time I go to sync my iphone, iTunes warning me "if you do this, you'll lose ALL YOUR DATA" what the hell is that nonsense? If I pick a new PC to manage stuff, just parent it.

Do you have a Zune HD? I need to find a store with them and see how the interface is compared to an iPod. Otherwise I need to replace my wife's iPod with a 16GB model but we have 20GB of music.

It would not be a big deal to shrink our music to fit 16GB but Zune's are cheaper.
