Nicer, slicker cars? hardly, most of my friends and I race on the weekends and laugh wildly at these things called ricers who generally finish mid-last. They just look ridiculous. The cars that race are all about performance with a mild afterthought to apperence. We don't use spoilers...too much weight (we don't get out of third gear anyway so a spoiler wouldn't help)

nicer, slicker cars? no...just way more juvenile.

<---smacks down civic SIs on a daily basis...silly kids. And yes I drive a honda. 'lude SH w/230 HP.

<< I have been thinking about my stance on 'ricers' for a few days now, and I think my thoughts have changed to a certain extent. When you see a car go down the street, bondoed all to hell, huge wing, lowering springs, and funky ground effects, people automatically think 'rice'. When in all reality, we have no clue what is under the hood. But, does it matter what is under the hood?

Now, time to make my point. It doesn't even matter what is under the hood. SOME people don't care about how fast there car is, but want to make it look more aestheticly pleasing. Is there a problem with that? IMO, no. Some things though, I think are still ridiculous, such as stealing a BMW badge and putting it on your Civic, or the big Type-R sticker on your base model accord.

Ok, I am done, flame away.

This is a group of people I will just never understand, or care to for that matter. These were the same five foot tall guys who would skip lunch in HS to run outside to play basketball against other five foot guys and then come back to class completly drenched in sweat, everyday.

Now they have little cars for their five foot bodies. On the court, they thought their little bodies could school all of the rest of us who didn't have to stand on our tip toes to look over the lunch counter. No game between us was ever played though, because my Mom taught me to play against kids my own size. Same thing with these cars. Those guys can knock themselves out and convince everyone in their little, isolated group that they are the stuff. But they'll never really know, because real car freaks wouldn't waste their Dodge Charger on them.

IMO

<< RX7 is Mazda, it's amazing what they can do with what is technically a two cylinder. All of 1.3 liters of displacement.

I don't care much for first generation RX7's, but the second and especially third are gorgeous vehicles.

Viper GTS

umm, that would be twin rotor, to be correct.

i like second generation the most, i knew a guy that put a chevy 350 in his rx-7.. damn that thing was fast

Here is why I hate ricers. The other morning I was driving to work on the freeway doing about 70 mph in the center lane. A ricer comes up in the left lane but can't by because of an 18 wheeler in the left lane, and the right lane has slower traffic. So this guy is bouncing back and forth between the two lanes, he is tailgating me so close that I can only see the roof of his car in the rear view mirror(I drive an S-10 pickup). I finally get tired of his tail gating and really step on the gas. I get about a 1/4 mile ahead of him(because his rice burner can't keep up, the highway splits and goes down to two lanes. Traffic is getting heavy so I slow down and get in the right lane. Well, here he comes again and he is on my tail again. He is bouncing between the two lanes again and after a couple of minutes he finally gets in front of me although there is only 1 car length between me and the car in front of me. Now here is my stupid decision. I decided I'd let him know how it felt to be tailgated that close. For about 2 miles I was about 2 feet from his rear bumper and he couldn't accellerate fast enough to pull away. I decided that it was enough and started to switch lanes. Just as I started to switch lanes the ricer slamms on his breaks. I must have missed him by inches. Then the idiot pulls next to me, is honking his horn, flipping the bird. So I pointed to the shoulder and motioned for him to stop. We both pull over, I get out and walk in front of my truck and wait for him to get out. After a minute the guy puts his car in reverse and tries to run me over, then takes off back into traffic. I guess he took the chicken sh!t approach since he figured I was pissed enough to kick his @ss. Anyway, that's why I hate ricers.

i think it's obvious that everyone finds this stuff ridiculous, but what pisses me off is that CERTAIN arrogant racists will classify any asian car as a "ricer" regardless of their performance...

for example, i know someone (older white guy) with a 550HP nissan 300ZX with a body kit and rims... most people would think, wow that's an awesome car, whereas the aforementioned bastards would dismiss it as "rice" even though it could probably blow away many of their cars... it's one of those ignorant "manhood" things where what they have has to be the best because they say it is... i can't stand "riced" civics but i applaud the guys that make theirs fast enough to embarass the domestic drivers who have the aforementioned attitude...

and you know what they say, jealousy breeds contempt... they did the exact same stuff when they were younger (modifying cars) and they want it to be "their" hobby... oh and before you say there's a big difference between appearance/performance modding, the main reason for that is non-availability of appearance modding parts back then (cars were all metal, what could u do? smelt yourself a body kit?)... also todays' cars are more mechanically complicated to work on because of the amount of electronics...

Depends on definition of ricers, if you're talking about a stock car that's just been cosmetically enhanced, they just look stupid, if you're talking about a car that's had some real modifications to the engine & running gear, AND COSMETICS, I'm impressed, it's hard to improve on something that's so well balanced from the factory.

However, I saw an Eagle Talon last week that had all of the above, and 5 spoilers on it, sort of streched good taste in auto cosmetics.

After more speeding tickets than I care to admit to, I started modifying my autos into sleepers, stock on the outside & modding the engine, intake, exhause, suspension, ECS. Then I hang my stethoscope on the rearview mirror, and when pulled over shut the hell up (the hardest lesson I've ever learned), put both hands on the steering wheel, and tell the officer everything I'm going to do prior to doing it ("My insurance card is in the glovebox, and I'm going to reach for it now&quot. I'll have to hand them my Concealed Weapons Permit too, in a month or so, when TX decides to send it to me.

Seems most cops are motorheads, and poor motorheads (relatively speaking) @ that. They like cars & if you've got a car in their price range if good shape and you don't make like you're going to shoot them, they'll let you off

Yes he would have been a jerk also but there are a couple of differences. The Camaro is a High performance automobile with great handling and maneuvering capabilities. This rice burner wasn't. It had the ground effects, the stickers, the spoilers, the loud exhaust tube, but no maneuverability or horsepower. My S-10 has only 200 h.p. but I could have easily blown him out of the water. A Camaro would have been able to maneuver past me and the 18 wheeler because it has the horsepower to go when the driver decides to go. I also wouldn't have been able to keep up with a Camaro in order to tailgate him back because he would have left me far behind.

Hey everyone here... First off I'd like to mention I'm a 24yo asian american, and being here for the last 20 years, should be able to read as well as anyone here...

First time in this thread, and I think I may know what it is you all refer to as a "ricer." While I personally think Japanese cars are heads and shoulders above what American manufacturers churn out, (ie, Consumer reports says that Japanese cars rate slighly higher in terms of reliability than Euro cars, and significantly higher than American cars) I'm just as annoyed at all those "ricers" with their typeR's, civics, etc... because the drivers do tend to loiter, annoy people on the street, get involved in gangs, and their cars are most likely not paid off... But these are all stereotypes, and though stereotypes do exist because they tend to be true over half the time, many exceptions do exist.

OTOH American cars also annoy me a great deal. Besides the fact that most of them are lazy pieces of crap on wheels, everybody's into more powerful, heavier, stronger, bigger trucks... I think they're a bigger hazard on the road. Who needs 240+hp and a big fat tank like that Excursion or Escalade? And getting single digits gas mileage on such monstrosities is inexcuseable. Why does Dodge classify the Durango in the "compact" SUV category and their low end model still offers a V8? Ugly pieces of crap... People who drive those things are probably the same people who backed dumb-ass Bush on refusing to join the Kyoto conferance... F*ck the environment - we're rich Americans, and we rule! ...now isn't that the arrogant mentality some of us have?

Well that was my two cents... feel free to flame.

LOL I saw a Riced up Civic Del Sol last week, funniest thing was it had a picture of aliens on it, like Roswell type with the big head and eyes.....

ON the back bumper cover right above the 7in diameter fart pipe painted in green ghost type writing was

ILLEGAL ALIEN

had to laugh at that....

I hate ricers because their owners actually think they are fast and cool, I just think they are stupid looking and annoying (don't know whether I am talking about their owners or the cars themselves )

Nothing beats driving a real 300+ HP at the Rear wheels car with a real motor (V8 or better) in it with nice straight pipes and either Flowmasters or a Borla exhaust on the back, heck I would even settle for high flow cats.....Rice Rockets were a joke when I had my Saleen and I still can out drive them in my SVT contour.

Bozack you sound like someone who's done a lot of modding yourself, cuz none of those names ring a bell to me. Me I just drive a 01 Isuzu Rodeo, decent at 205 hp. I'm into computers the way you guys are probably into cars. I just drive whatever's practical and can haul my crap around...

<< I think you guys are just jealous cuz they got nicer slicker looking cars than you >>

A mis-badged car with non-functional addons is like the little teeny boys bragging about how they got some, but don't even know what it looks like.

So, based on the fact that you have visited a few countries out of the 200+ countries in the world and (correct me if i'm wrong here) the fact that you haven't lived in all of the countries for extended periods of time, you can safely conclude that the US's system of government and whatnot is the most efficient way of doing things? Why that's ingenious.

Phokus I love the Mary Poppins style of debate. Toss some random thoughts and hope they all come together and make sense.

You accused me of half lies, mistruths and some other jibberish.

Which is none of the above.

it's a 2 rotor engine... really can't compare it to a standard engine.

and the souped up ones have the 3 rotor option usually don't they?

<< because the guy who drives it is now in his own mind the most bad ass ,macho, studly man to walk the green earth. >>

amen to that!

the english equivalent is the "boy racer" whos favorite vehicle is the Vauxhall Nova (tasty wheels a must), or if he's a classy individual, the astra (more boot space for more amps)

these dam guys are acctaully starting to give motorsport enthusiasts a bad name to the general uninformed population!!!!! :|

OK...heres my take on this. I think ricers are stupid, but its the drivers own style. If he likes it fine, if I don't that great. I mean...you wouldn't rag on somebody bucause of their style of clothing....would you? Its there own style and how would you like it if somebody was talkin sh!t about your target shirts or whatever. What I do respect are the people who do both, engine mods and slight cosmetic work. LIke Supra's....they can kick alot of cars asses in stock trim. Puts down 320 hp and runs the quarter in like 13.2. People on the supraforums have supras that have 600-700 hp, run 10-11's and are still a daily driver. DOn't hate on someone's style if it doesn't match up to your own style.

Peace

I don't care how many spoilers, mufflers, and stickers you put on a Corolla, it's STILL a Corolla!!!

If these jackasses did't waste so much money making their silly cars look even more silly, they would actually be able to afford REALLY nice cars. Ricing is an expensive hobby.
