In my opinion, this is my own, I think Apple winning this case and then banning Samsung's products is good for the U.S. economy.

Sure, you might get an OS that's slightly better, a slightly bigger screen, several % faster CPU and a better drop down notification system on the Android but what about the jobs?

If Samsung does well and crushes Apple in 2 years, what happens to all the tens of thousands of high paying jobs in Cupertino, California? Apple is the biggest U.S. company right now. If it does down, how does it help your job?

Samsung's highest paying jobs are in Korea. They are exporting to us while Apple is exporting to the rest of the world. Yes, I know they both use Chinese labor.

Notes:
This is my own opinion. I live in Silicon Valley and my job was directly created by the iPhone. I currently use a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I do not currently own a single Apple product. Not an Apple fan boy.

Samsung has already doubled Apple's quarterly smartphone sales numbers; the gap is going to continue to widen, despite this verdict.

Remember, the verdict deals mostly with phones that are already 1-2 cycles old, and ready to be replaced.

I think this hurts Samsung a lot but like what you said, it's not going to kill them.

However, my hope is that Apple continues to dominate so that we are exporting more than importing. Even a little bit helps. Despite owning a Samsung phone, I still want Apple to do well. It means too much to Silicon Valley and jobs in America in general.

What does this have to do with keeping US jobs?

Samsung doubled Apples numbers but most of them were shit phones. You also forgot to mention that Apple still made several Billions more in profits.

I agree with the OP that Apple has created a lot of US jobs.

Samsung has huge plants in America, their plant in Texas is ironically making chips that go in Apple's products. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-57497285-92/samsung-to-invest-up-to-$4-billion-in-texas-plant/

Apple has a total of around 60,000 employees. The electronics arm of Samsung has around 220,000 employees (as a whole around 350,000 employees) and I believe nearly a third of that number is employed in the United States.

That kind of info doesn't belong in this thread.

unfortunately you are incorrect. I don't even know where to begin.
Let me just remind you that this is 2012, not 1960. Global economy.
The Apple packaging says" "Made in People's Republic of China, created in California". That's only half the truth. It is created in California, Massachusetts, Washington, Taiwan, China, and Korea.

And it should also be pointed out that the electronics inside your iPhone were designed overseas.

Yes, banning competition in trying to foster a monopoly is good for an economy.

Someone needs to be sent to school alright.

So market value=company size?

And what exactly is Apple exporting? The technology they don't invent or the items they don't build?

Yeah - Apple's market value means nothing when they only employ around 40 thousand employees in the US. That's a drop in the bucket.

cost of production of the next line of iOS is the same weather they have $10B in profit for $500m.

They're not going to hire more developers.
If anything they're going to innovate less now that they have one less competitor.

How do you know they're not going to hire more developers? How do you know how much things cost to produce by Apple? How do you know that jobs aren't created indirectly by Apple? Why would they innovate less if Samsung is forced to create new devices?

New devices = innovation = competition.

Apple is not the biggest company in terms of actual jobs. And let's not forget that they all make their phones overseas, not here.

Neither Apple nor Samsung have a bearing on my job. I'm not in the tech industry at all.

Apple is playing bully, with their ridiculous "design" patents. Samsung should drop Apple as a client, stop making their chips, and then we'll see who's the loser.

Apple winning is good for the US economy. Not just for Apple's sake but because it means our strengths are still valuable.

In the long run its good for any potentially innovative company, maybe even Samsung, that can have its products copied and produced in whatever country has the lowest cost of production without consequence.

So nobody who works for Apple or their suppliers, or none of the products and/or services they consume with their salaries, or none of the taxes they pay that pay for the infrastructure and defense of the country, has any bearing on your job ?

I find that hard to believe.

Yeah and lose $8B from Apple, which would be a total of $9B in losses.

New devices = innovation = competition.

Less competition in the market means less innovation which means fewer developers hired.

So what happens if Apple falls? Where are their developers going to go? It'd be devastating for Silicon Valley.

Yea, it's a drop in the bucket in terms of total GPD but a lot of other companies also depend on Apple.

Apple is exporting the iPhone & iPad oversees. They sell them in Europe, Asia, South America.

Economy 101. Exporting more is better than importing.
