Why are AAA single player games so "dead"?

This is why I keep going back to my old games. Hell, I was playing Urban Chaos just last night. Awesome game.

Me too. I revisit classics usually when I buy a new monitor. Bought a PG278Q not long back so revisited HL2, Quake 2, FEAR, RTCW, STALKER, Unreal 1 Max Payne and got many more to play on my backlog.

As I implied, I hate multiplayer and don't bother with indie games. Then its PC only as I don't do consoles anymore so if something AAA isn't on PC I won't play it. That reduces the pool significantly.

Then I guess it sucks to be you. You want different and interesting but not indie. The bad news is that different and interesting AAA has always been a rare thing. At best you could go back to a time when game budgets didn't approach movie budgets and see more risk taking in AAA but by and large you aren't going to see too much of that anymore.

Drop your idea of "AAA or bust" because unique AAA is and always will be a rare animal. If you get even two of them in a single year that's a good year.

So much the truth. Even before Steam I had shelves of games. Few that I actually finished. Damn hoarders.

I've started to hate AAA SP games too. The gameplay doesn't have the liveliness of MMO's, which have the human element. Lots of it feels like you're doing computer choreography.
