why are all the new monitors I try terrible for gaming?

for those that do not know, my Acer H233H had stared flickering and crapping out on me so I had to trash it. it was fine for games and I never noticed jittering or blurriness when looking around in games. it had a 5ms rating which was nothing special.

I have now tried 6 new monitors and every one of them have ranged from bad to really bad for actual screen response. some of them have been almost disorienting when looking around fast. even just small panning around in the games will make a little jitter. every one of those have been 5ms or faster. and yes i know specs can be misleading but why are they all worse than my 3 year old Acer that was just mainstream monitor?

well today I decide to dust off the old Dell S2409 that I also had just to see how it is. I will be damned if it does not have hardly any problems at all being smooth in gaming. in fact its like a 120hz compared to the new garbage I have been trying out for months.

now please tell me how two 3 year old mainstream monitors with 5ms completely blow away anything new with a 5ms or better rating? it is not even close as the S2409 and H233H are excellent while the newer monitors make me want to throw up in fast movements and aggravate the crap out of me even when looking around.

I never had these problems.

In general Dell monitors are excellent. Look for 2-3ms if it really bothers your eyes.

then you are almost blind or just not sensitive at all. its night and day differences as I even put the monitors side by side. and some of the monitors I have tested are Dells and they are indeed crappy compared to the old Acer H233H and Dell S2409.

Stop buying cheap crappy monitors?
hey genius, perhaps you missed the part where the S2409 and H233H were just regular everyday monitors just like the ones I am trying now. as usual around here, everything as to be repeated over and over.

I've stuck to LG and Dell LED/LCD (dell uses LG panels in most of their monitors, anyway) screens and i've never had an issue with screen responsiveness. I've heard some horror stories specific to other brands, though.

No, my point still stands. Most of the price drop for "mainstream" monitors over the years comes not from manufacturing maturity, but from reduced quality.

Stop buying cheap monitors if you want good performance.

the old Dell and Acer used cheap panels and had even cheaper price back then the most of models do now. so where is the logic?

I think some of you just do not notice it or have been lucky to get a good model. when I started trying out new monitors, I kept thinking wtf is this blurriness and screen jitter crap. I knew my old monitors did not do anything near that bad but was thinking my recent time on the crt may be part of the reason these new ones seem so bad. when I busted out the old Dell today I full expected it to be awful but was blown away by how good it was. I was barely any worse than my crt.

Good to see that you're still focused on making friends. Perhaps a less belligerent tone would help you to get a satisfactory answer.

I've had good success with my 2209wa. Eips is supposed to be cheaper and have more input lag, but this thing feels just as responsive as the 21.6" tn Asus that I have upstairs. I think that hp and Dell both offer competitive Eips monitors right now, and they are pretty reasonable (300ish on sale, 400 everyday).

I reply as I see fit and I thought his comment was ridiculous and added nothing to the topic. cost has little to do with it because its usually the cheaper TN panels that typically have great screen response. maybe they are making them even crappier now but why would they cost even more than those old monitors that performed even better from 3 year ago?

that 2209wa is a 1680x1050 monitor and I am looking for a 1920x1080 led backlit monitor if possible. Dell does have a U2311H though that I might check out.

Are you able to list those 6 monitors so we can avoid?

Dude, believe me I was one of the last to adapt to LCD monitors after using a CRT for many many years precisely because of this reason. My first LCD sucked, and I promptly switched back to my trusty CRT (a trinitron 19")- then I tried another LCD in 2006 or so and haven't looked back. It very much depends on the quality of the panel, i'd say panels with response problems are in the minority now.

Believe me, if there is input delay/slow response I will definitely notice it. Most quality TN panels don't have a problem with it, at least LG screens generally don't. If anything IPS are worse than TN's in terms of response time.

and if it does the same thing will you pay for return shipping or restocking fee if there is one?

I am hoping to find something locally or at least through a place that will not charge a restocking fee or return shipping. if we can narrow down some good models then maybe I will check out Amazon since they have a great return policy.

This is why you always buy monitors from amazon.com. Free shipping (with prime membership) and a completely hassle free return policy - they pay shipping and provide the return label - if there's a defect such as a dead pixel/ghosting/uneven contrast/etc there's no way i'd keep a monitor. Those who know, amazon

Poor refresh rates, but you can eliminate the issue on any title you like with v-sync. Are you just unwilling to use that feature or what?

are you kidding? if you turn on vsync it will not improve screen response and if anything will make it more jittery if you are not maintaining a high framerate.

My new LG IPS 23.6 panel that I got at best buy on a few weeks back for $199 works fine for gaming. Actually better then my old Asus 24"

Must not be sensitive.

My Dell 2007FPW has been great, but it's upper range monitor. I wouldn't really buy low end dell TN panel.

Yeah, I don't know the numbers but the 23" e-ips monitors from Dell and hp have gotten good reviews. Mine is awesome even at 1680x1050.

I was in the same boat as you. I couldn't stand LCD anything due to the blurriness ect that is inherent in the technology. To be honest, I really didn't give a crap about resolution simply because of all the other drawbacks you always hear about.

About 3 months ago after much research, I purchased an Asus 28" MT276HE for around $239 and love it. No blurriness, backlit, 2ms etc etc. It is a great monitor for the price. I've seen the high end Dells and they look great, but they are not good for movies/games. They are slow as sin.
