I agree 100%, when I'm driving my wife's Prius I guarantee someone will cut me off. I could be the last car in a line of five cars and have a 1/4 mile of open road behind me and someone will come flying up and want to get into the space between me and the car in front of me. Never happens in my Z28 or my F150.

You have to make decisions with the information you have. For instance, always pass a volvo. Maybe you're the one volvo driver who can do the speed limit, but that is a chance I'm not willing to take.

Anyway, Camry drivers often seem retarded because the Camry is this generation's Ford Crown Vic.

Nah, the Crown Vic is still the Crown Vic.

I think retired people buy police cars just to fuck with people. I know that's my plan. I'll retire, buy whatever the police are using for their cars, attach what appears to be a spotlight to the driver side (not actually connected to electrical system), paint it black with black rims, then drive slightly below the speed limit in the passing lane on the busiest highway I can find in peak traffic hours.

Not all police-like cars are actual police cars, but you'd need to be pretty dumb to speed in front of one. My brother actually tried racing one. The cop laughed it off because the cop was the one trying to get him to race, but seriously come on man. Common sense.

Well there is a large contingent of Prius drivers that can be characterized as asshats (I think they prefer "hypermilers", but that's just a euphemism).

I make it a point to get my car into single mpg digits in effort to get in front of them before the road turns into single lane.

Actually, burning in front of a Prius then coasting to a lower speed is something a hypermiler would do.

From what I've seen, driving at schizophrenic inconsistent speeds is surprisingly good for gas mileage as long as you're not using your brakes or engine braking. For the past few days, traffic has been heavier and I haven't been able to set cruise control, but my gas mileage is up slightly!

My first car was an ex-cruiser, with the spotlight. I could go 50-55 on the interstate before people would start passing me. Also saved my ass from a few speeding tickets. Nothing like getting a friendly wave instead of getting pulled over :whiste:

I even hooked up a loudspeaker than could play ice-cream truck music, among other sound, talk about a mind job. A ricer pulled up next to me, saw I was a kid and revved his engine, wanting to race me. I looked at him like then hit the "cow" button and he was all .

Bullshit. If I pull out in front of you in my Camry and do 0 to 60 in 8 seconds a full 1/4 mile ahead of you with plenty of room to spare, and closing in on the next car ahead, and you get a hair up your ass to put your foot to the floor and have to catch up to barely get around me anyway the instant you see that Im pulling out, you are just being a dick and trying to prove something.

If Im in my Cobra and do the same thing, and even drive more conservatively, nothing comes of it.

People like to act aggressively toward other people when they think or know they have the upper hand, on the road or otherwise. People act like dicks when Im in the Camry just because they can and because they know I can't stop them or challenge them, not because of how I'm driving.

People having there way with me with there little pissing contests for several years is what originally got me into fast cars and caused me to seek out something so respected and intimidating that nobody would mess with me. And hey it worked, replace a little beater Camry with a kenne bell Cobra that sounds like it eats babies just to idle and suddenly people aren't as aggressive towards you.

Are you one of those young punk who pull in front of my Camry in your Honda Civic thinking it is a rice car?

0-60 in 6.2sec, and I'll blow the doors off your Civic going up steep hills at 85~95mph and still have plenty of power left for acceleration.

So get off the fast lane with your rice car and let us folks that know how to drive drives.

Porsche Boxster:
1997 -- 0-60/6.9~7.6sec
2000 -- 0-60/5.9~6.4sec
2002 -- 0-60/5.4~6.2sec
2004 S 550 -- 0-60/5.7sec

Just turn your high beams on for a couple miles.

It's not like you'll get a ticket for it. Judging by the number of BMW SUVs on the road with HID lights that shine directly into everyone else's eyes, I'm guessing there's no law that prevents you from intentionally blinding other people or intentionally causing accidents.

Would you like to place a wager on your guess? I could use some extra money.

BMW stock headlights are HID lights that blind everyone. If it were illegal to intentionally blind other drivers and intentionally cause car crashes, every BMW dealer would be shut down and every BMW driver would be in jail where they belong.

Factory HID lights have an auto leveling system. When they turn on, you can see them move and level themselves.

If they are blinding you, they are broken...

From my 08 Grand Cherokee manual:

Automatic Headlight Leveling — HID Headlights
Only
This feature prevents the headlights from interfering
with the vision of oncoming drivers. Headlight leveling
automatically adjusts the height of the headlight beam in
reaction to changes in vehicle pitch.

Then the question is why do they need to be leveled all the time. We've had the yellow headlights for at least fifty years and they've never given anyone a problem. If the HIDs actually need to be adjusted all the time, then that should give some indication that the manufacturer is fully aware how dangerous these lights are.

A quick google search says that HID lights really are illegal in some places. One guy posts about how he just got a ticket and other people are trying to explain the laws

...The world would be a better place if everyone drove like I do. My actions are determined solely based on how I will inconvinence other drivers, things like coasting completely and QUICKLY into the turn lane before my brake lights come on so the person behind me doesn't have to change anything, pulling over to the left or right in my lane if I'm that 10th car from the intersection just barely blocking the left/right turn lanes, etc. If I'm impatient with someone in front of me, it's because they are causing people behind me to get pissed off which in turn pisses me off. Whether I hit my brakes to make a last minute turn, or drive past and turn around is entirely determined by what's in my rear view mirror at the moment. I drive in such a way as to be invisible to other drivers.

I do this too. More people should.

Also, two turn signal blinks (at least) before hitting the brakes.

And ACCELERATE, at short lights, people !!! It won't hurt your car to go to 1/2 - 2/3 throttle.

So it's only legal to blind other drivers if you have a BMW. Apparently you are allowed to put everyone's life at risk as long as you have enough money. I say save $20,000 then just drive around with your high beams on. You get the satisfaction of making the roads more dangerous but it will take dozens of years for the tickets to add up to $20k.

You're just all kinda fails aren't you? The factory HID's are in properly designed housing that allows light from the HID bulbs to refract properly to project light to where it needs to be; they have cut off plates that make sure the lights don't blind other drivers on the road and is auto leveling for when the vehicle encounters elevation changes to ensure the projection stays level.

Your example of Civics with HIDs? Yeah, just fail. Most of the time, some idiots just buy the HID bulbs and throw them in their factory housing which never was designed for HID bulbs. Then there are some that buy after market HIDs, which are crap.

And why the hate on BMW's, the HIDs on BMW's actually have the most natural color than other manufacturers that are on a much higher scale, so that they appear "whiter" but are not actually brighter.

ShawnD1, I had HIDs in projectors in my 98 Camaro. There was LESS glare to oncoming traffic from them than with the original halogens in the reflector headlights. A pic as an example of the lack of glare:

Yes, it was a retrofit, but done RIGHT not like how many people put HID in their halogen reflectors and blind the crap out of everyone.

Probably the reason the BMW SUVs seem to be a little more glaring is because the vehicle does sit higher. But, that's the case anytime you're in a shorter vehicle and someone is in a taller vehicle, there is no avoiding it.

The worst is a truck towing a trailer with decent tongue weight...headlights point right at ya. Ugh.

Yeah no kidding. There was a Toyota Tacoma behind me on the interstate the other day that had a heavier load in the bed. With that load the headlights were pointed almost straight in my back window of my Trailblazer. Ouch.

My HIDs have an electronic adjustment so that I can point them down when my car is loaded up.

I got high-beams flashed at me on a regular basis when I drove cars with the old-school 'sealed beam' headlights. I never get flashed with my HIDs that stay down, out of other drivers' eyes.

There are two types of drivers who drive me crazy...

Those who unthinkingly drive as if they're the only car on the road...Camry owners are not alone in this...

...and those zoom-zoom ricers who think all the other cars are obstacles in their Playstation highway slalom race come to life........
