Back in 1999 the Hayabusa almost hit 200 mph. I hit 197, albeit with a tailwind.
The European supercar companies realized that within a couple years at most, motorcycles would officially break that magic number and put pressure on the EU to make sure that wouldn't happen. So in 2000 the EU declared that new motorcycles would be speed limited to 300 kph or 186 mph. Ferrari et al having hamstrung the hyperbike market left the worlds motorcycles with a conundrum. Either they had to limit all bikes to 300kph or make two machines of each model, one of which would be crippled. Obviously it's cheaper to hobble everything, so that's what happened. That left me with the bragging rights for owning the fastest production motorcycle that was ever, or will ever, be produced
Sadly, the engine design had a flaw and a couple years back now I had to put it down. The cost of getting it running considerably exceeded the value of the machine. Ah well, it was fun.
