Why are celebrities SO freaking Liberal?

What I find the most interesting is that most laws and recommendations for censorship have come from the Democratic party:

Communications Decency Act
V-Chip
Ratings on games and music
PMRC (Thank you Tipper Gore)

*edit: oh and how did I forget, try to have a Republican forum or rally or disseminate republican issues on any campus in America and you will be shouted down or shut out by the Liberal left in short order.



I can't think of one idea that involved censorship the directly came from Republicans.

I suppose celebrities are more often "liberal", but I think their outspokeness is largely due to other factors.

1) They are used to being in the spotlight
2) They have access to the media and the media loves to give them that access
3) They have opinions, just like all of us
4) Since the begining of television, ideas have lost importance while appearance has gained importance in the political arena
5) (related to #4) Most celebrities jobs entail them to keep up good appearances(not just "looks", but presence)
6) Celebrities are begining to realize their potential to gain political power
7) They have a lot of "leisure time" to formulate and refine their opinions(doesn't necessarily make their opinions better, but does make the opinions better supported in the sense that they have time to formulate a compelling arguement in support of their opinions)

Many more are but are afraid to speak up because they no their careers would be hurt. The few that do speak out have already established themselves firmly, so they have less to fear (that and the four you listed could easily kick anyone's ass who pushed them about it).

Tim robbins is a liberal if i remember. I think the censorship stuff that has come from the liberals is a result of one of their other traits which is the idea that a central government should control everything. See: Socialism and Communism.

I think with celebrities their political views are a result of the image they need to keep. A fellow who has money to spare would do his career good by donating some of it to a "save the whales" cause rather than a "kill welfare, because those people are lazy mooches" cause. Also, its easier to make fun of the republicans, unless you're talking about bill or hillary clinton. well, maybe clinton and GW are about equal so far...

don't forget the overwhelming majority of ultra conservative pundits filling their air time by ranting about said celebrities. conservatives probably hear more about these celebs then any liberal. its a feedback loop of their own making, they need something to talk about, what better
