As a young person, I can tell you that it isn't because I'm more "liberal". It isn't because I don't believe in core Republican ideals either: small government, respect of individual rights, and fiscal conservatism.
It is because that's not what the GOP advertises anymore, to the point the party now contradicts itself:
- Freedom of religion, so long as you are a Christian.
- Less government spending, so long as we keep bombing other countries.
- No government subsidization, unless you are a large corporation.
- Land of the free, so long as you aren't an immigrant (besides, who the FUCK isn't aside from Native Americans).
- Literal belief in the Constitution, unless it involves "border security", "intelligence", or "terrorism".
- Certain inalienable rights, unless you're LGBT.
- The notion that those in unfortunate circumstances are there simply because they are lazy.
- The notion that education and scientific principles are something to be feared or admonished.
When faced with the candidate that is shit and one that is more shit, I'll pick the one that's less shitty. That's all you can really do in a two party system that is constantly fueled by media partisanship.
It's not my fault that conservatives have forgotten what their party actually stands for.
