it's acidic. The acid makes your tongue feel like it's burning. That does not mean it's spicy.

Eh? No, that's what spicy foods do. Acid gives a sour flavor.

So if i were to douse my tongue in hyperchloric acid, i would not feel a burning sensation, but only an unpleasing taste?
Hyperchloric acid? That's a new one.

Based on a quick google search: Also known as Perchloric Acid - HClO4.
Interesting.
Yeah, never heard of that one either..

I assumed he meant hydrochloric acid.

I assumed so too, but after looking it up, Perchloric Acid is also a strong acid, so it could have been either.

Pineapples are one of the sweetest fruits out there (my favorite) but only if they're ripe. Go to a country that grows them around January/February.

Everything I get in the states is tart.

Some of the spicyness you perceive may be from the proteinases found in pinapple. There are enzymes that break down proteins in them that can cause a burning sensation in your mouth sometimes with fresh pinapple. The enzymes are deactivated by the heat from canning or other pasturization so it only really applies to fresh pineapple. That is also why you shouldn't use fresh pineapple in jello, the enzymes melt the protein based gel and it never solidifies.
