education is the only solution
I think that is very much true, but the one thing I've wondered, why even so many education and wealthy African Americans have children out of wedlock? People like Jesse Jackson fathered a kid just like 5 years ago (and he is married).

Also, what makes a baby born into a family where the mother and father are married any better of a situation than one whose parents aren't married?

Because most people have priorites turned around, or suffer from chronic anocranial inversion. Or cerebrorectal....
Nobody considers the consequence of their own actions, let alone taking responsibility for them.
And societally we give approval. Its a mixed up world...
kids are our number 1 natural resource, why would ya NOT take care of them?

Now if we could just find a way to grind them up and burn them as a cheap fuel source, we could kill two birds with one stone.

It is rather high, but that is the rate.
I'm black, but I gre up in a mostly white community. I have a baby on the way and its my first. I'm 30. However I can sympathize with some of the statements on here. Many young black kids do not want to associate with someone who is doing better than them. Its not about the other person doing good, but better than them. That is why you get the "uncle tom" comments and such.
I think it is a disturbing trend. I'll keep a watchful eye.

Statistically speaking, children are more likely to come out better in a two-parent household. Additionally, people who don't have children until after they finish high school are more likely to succeed. People who don't have children until after college are even more likely to succeed.

According to recent figures, the rate is 69% for blacks and 24% for whites. When you compare this figure to 50 years ago, or even recently, it was much lower. When you have an overwhelming amount of kids having no father it creates problems that have a snowball effect.
That is the main reason why so many blacks and others seem to have lost hope.
One thing I've noticed is that blacks don't associate much with blacks who they perceive to be intelligent and get good grades. They call them Uncle Tom. I have seen it personally. Basically, if you're an African American and want to get good grades, be prepared to be ridiculed and be prepared to not having a lot of friends.
This trend seems popular with some whites too.
The question is, what can we do to fix this problem?
What can we do to improve the conditions? What can we do so that these kids have a father?
And should the fathers and in some cases, mothers, be punished for treating their kids and family like this?
To me, this is one of the greatest challenges facing America.

a lot of these problems stem from economic issues, read your history books. This has happened before

None of it has to do with "economic" issues. But being poor does makes me stupid.
It's purely a JL Gatsby issue.

You can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat! How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?
(ok, I'll shut up now... )
