When I installed them on my NF7-S rev1.2, the CD-RW drives stopped working. They were recognized, but Nero would error out every time I tried to do a write.

You guys want to hear something strange? When I initially upgraded to the 1011 final BIOS my computer would freeze up while booting into Windows with 1GB of memory installed. I upgraded to the newest beta BIOS and things worked ok except my SATA burner stopped working. I downgraded back down to the final 1011 BIOS and prior to reflashing the BIOS I removed the nVidia IDE drivers. After going back down and experiencing one random lock up I decided to reinstall the nVidia IDE drivers. So far no lock ups. I am stressing my system by ripping a DVD, typing this, and listening to iTunes. I hear a minor quirk when I'm listening to iTunes. It kinda skips and studders a little. Is this normal?

Some people have had great experience with the nVidia drivers, such as yourself, and others have not, like me.

I installed the 6.53 drivers last week and, oh boy. First class ticket to Nightmare City. The ethernet driver completely bogged my 'net connection down to almost a standstill. Either that or the firewall threw a heap of mud on it. Then, Windows no longer recognized my NEC ND-3520A DVD +/- RW drive. Gone. The only place the optical appeared was in the BIOS.

I had to do a System Restore to roll everything back to a point a few days prior to the meltdown.

It could just be that these drivers are in conflict with specific makes and models of hardware, which you may not have. I mean, not all tires blow out on a Ford Explorer, capice?

Spare yourself the headache and don't waste your time with the 6.53's. I'll save you the price of the ticket: The movie sucked.

INHO..the only good Nvidia package is 5.10..I tried various ide drivers on my Neo 2 Plat and they do not seem to boost any performance and in fact caused issues with my BenQ 1620 dvdrw...I know use MS IDE for optical and 5.10 ide drivers for my 2 Seagate SATA drives..the MS sata drivers did not work well...My seagates are 7200.8 with NCQ

Sad to see nvidia after almost a year has not produced a eliable update to their unified drivers

It's only their native IDE drivers that they have dropped the ball repeatedly with...Maybe NVidia simply feels that maybe they'll simply phase out those drivers like they've done with Soundstorm?

More or less, NVidia's IDE drivers have been fscked from the start...The short time I was testing with them did not bode well with me, and after the reinstall of w2k, I didn't go back. And they were with "supposed WHQL certified" drivers as well.

Ya, that was a joke.

is there any supposed advantage to using those instead of the windows drivers?

LOL. Look at the response I got from ASUS when I e-mailed them about these crappy drivers. NVIDIA says to e-mail your motherboard manufacturer about problems with THEIR chipset. Whatever sense that makes.

The problem you are reporting is a stability issue and is usually caused by either the memory, power supply or the CPU running too hot. Please check with the memory maker to see if the module you are using has been tested or certified with the chipset on your motherboard.

I hate being treated like Joe 6-pack. 'Did you turn it on?' Of course they'd put what I said about 'other . people . having . this . problem' aside and just do wild guessing. Hey, why would they believe me? It's like they didn't even read half my e-mail. OK I can give him credit for writing like a 2-page e-mail back but unfortunately none of it is to any relevance.

Wow how did you even manage to get a response from Asus via email?!?!
