Its not like every person that needs something faxed to them doesn't have email.

I do believe that this may be a vast left-wing conspiracy.

this comes up every so often. i think the consensus is that it often has to do with signatures or legal documents

legal documents.

probably possible to use a scanner and pdf's instead, but faxing a contract is faster and any kind of like enterprise-level copier/printer is likely going to have built in fax functions anyways.

Because they remove about 10 steps towards getting a piece of paper in someone else's hands.

In Legal here. We prefer scanned/emailed copies of stuff but not all companies will do that. Dunno why, maybe they don't have scanners?

Work for a bank; we are just starting to get into scanning/emailing PDF doc's via the copy machine due to legal hangup's. It was unclear for a long time whether auditor's would except non-original copies of signatures/e-docs...but then they realized a fax is still a copy technically, so we are getting into it now

There's no good use for a fax machine. All this technology, and it's still being used to move trees around; retarded....

i can fax things to opposing counsel and they are considered served. in state court, the documents can't be emailed to be considered served. i can fax and then email to ensure a clean copy, though.

What I'd like to know is why haven't the "fax" companies started making fax machines that are 100% compliant/compatible with VOIP without having to pay the extra "fax line" fee?

not sure about that, but I do agree with you. In fact, I rant about this just about every other week.

I'd wager it's more part of the vast jewspiracy than any kind of political conspiracy. :Q

I've had to fax military documents to civilian companies for different purposes on a few occasions. Won't accept any other means of document handling, other than snail mail.

Horticulture. We fax availabilities/order sheets weekly to both Lowe's and Home Depot. They fax the completed form back to us. We couldn't do business without faxes going in and out all day long.

Most of the faxes I send are those that require my signature (transcript release, enrollment verification requests, etc.). I had to fax a 60+ page collection of documents to Redstone onetime after Army R&D brought me on as a summer hire between the end of undergrad and the beginning of graduate school. Have to love government paperwork...

Had to resend it multiple times, then gave up on my fax and went to my Aunt's business to use her professional fax machine and real phone line. Fax sucks over VOIP

Sure you could. You only use fax because that's the way it's always been done. If fax machines were erased from planet tonight, you'd be back on track by 9am tomorrow.

STILL fax machines so people can fax over their football sheets for the week. Usually around $180 in the pot.

Yeah... that pissed me off. All of the real estate listings are online now, but I must have had to fax about 50 pages worth of offers and counter-offers before we were finished with closing. We ended up having to rewrite many of the documents from scratch, since they were illegible from being faxed so many times.

Legal signed, binding documents. If you think a fax machine is not necessary then you have no fucking clue on legally binding contracts.

ANY contract or binding agreement I sign is a HARD document or facsimile. The law is on my side if I do this.

Anybody that doesn't understand this has no business commenting on it, nor have you ever signed contracts. E-mail is so easily spoofed and modified that it should be legally binding is laughable.
