500 million more than Canada? Dude, last time it was any census, the US had like 310 million residents(90 residents per square mile). EU is twice as crowded with 510 million residents making up over 301 people pre square mile.
Why Canada is fairly empty place is obvious, most of its land area is just not suitable for life. Australia is in similar situation, just instead of arctic cold they have darn hot desert.

Not sure how it is in Mexico and more to the south. But USA and Europe doesn't really have many children per family(at least compared to Asia).
Yet the reason may also be historical, most of americas are actually descendants from not so many colonial immigrants from europe.
In Asia, they lived there for thousands of years and managed to reproduce to this extend just because of time I guess. And they even have more children born per family so that's why the populations are different too.
