I don't like dogs, and pitbulls are on the top of my shit list. they're ghetto rat/white trash dog of choice cause because it makes them feel powerful in their shit lives. I have opposable thumbs and intelligence, and exceed dogs in every category. If a dog is what makes you tough, I got some bad news for you...

Yes, more than once, and I decided it'll never happen again. The next dog that touches me in anything approaching an aggressive manner will be killed.

I got bit once too, spent the whole weekend with my hand swollen up. i didn't want to embarrass my brother's neighbour.

Would you buy a Ferrari for your teenage son (aside from finances)? Pit Bulls are probably not constitutionally predetermined to be aggressive, though it's possible they have a higher likelihood than other breeds. Certainly they are very overrepresented in dog-human attacks, especially fatal ones. But this might be because they are often selected for their aggression and often raised in less optimal environments or frankly trained to be aggressive.

But I think any dog breed could make an excellent pet or a terrible one. When it goes wrong with Pits, the outcome could be worse given the physical capability of the breed.

I own a "Pitador," and happen to believe that some aggressive tendencies can be blamed on genetics, though with proper training, it should rarely be an issue. The problem is that improper training can exacerbate aggressive tendencies, and many pit bulls are either socialized poorly or intentionally trained to be aggressive, which is why they have such a reputation.

The same reason people are scared of sharks - tv shows and media.

I wish pit bulls only killed as many people as sharks do.

6% of the dog population, but accounts for 68% of attacks, 52% of lethal attacks. http://time.com/2891180/kfc-and-the-pit-bull-attack-of-a-little-girl/

I'm a big fan of dogs, there's a 125lb Anatolian Shepherd at my feet as I type this, but I can't ignore the math involved in this one. Do a lot of people with unscrupulous breeding and disciplining practices share the blame? Absolutely. Is this a figment of a fearful pop culture? Hell no.

Almost adopted one a few years back, but then I found I was moving. Love them.

The "problem" with pitbulls is not so much the pitbulls themselves, but the fact that humans have bred them to be fight/aggressive, so they can be by nature if not trained right. Some things may also trigger an otherwise calm dog. If you raise one properly I'd say it's probably fine but because of their potential aggressive nature (again, human's fault) you still need to tread lightly with them, don't jump in someone's yard that has a pit bull and expect it not to try to protect the yard, for example.

They are banned here, which I think is BS, because when they impliment these laws, in lot of cases owners are forced to get rid of their existing pets. Here I don't think it was like that and they were "grandfathered", but in some places it is.

I think if they really feel a breed is dangerous they should simply ban breeding them. Eventually there just won't be much left of that particular breed.
