Why are white people so racist against blacks in America?

Didn't the black vote go something like 97% for Obama, 2% for McCain? While the white vote was 55% McCain, 43% Obama.

Given that black people are not racist, stands to reason Obama rightfully should have won around 97% of the overall popular vote in the 2008 Presidential Election. Therefore I can say with total confidence that racism against Obama cost him 45 points overall, proving that whites in America are very, very racist.

I once went to a party where there were a bunch of black, whites and Indians.

Indians got along fine with both blacks and whites. What surprised me was how much blacks hate whites, they were badmouthing them every second they were there accusing them of being a bunch of racists when all the white folks were busy grinding each other.

I would argue that while we have room for improvement, the modern United States is, as a whole, the least racist culture in human history.

Why are white people so racist against blacks in America?

Let's pretend for a moment that's true, moving the argument along to why.

Civil War. You push people and they push back. Retaliatory attitude has continued to this day in varying degrees. The South got burned pretty bad and has economic scars that cannot heal.

Class Warfare. There's a hyper partisan divide between Republican and Democrat. Those poor, on welfare, and voting to sustain or expand such service stand in stark contrast to their opponents. This animosity could ignorantly be described as racism given the ethnic and racial distribution of wealth.

Finally, there are just plain racists out there, like any other country. We deal with more tension simply due to our diversity. Harder to find such problems in closed societies where folks live sheltered lives and they all look the same.

Is that racism or more uhh...Ethnicism? I'm thinking things like the horrific "Ethnic Cleansing" that happened in Bosnia and such. Not really a "race" thing, simply a "you aren't us" issue. And that's rampant...everywhere.

As for racism in other countries I remember sitting in a bar in Dublin and having drinks with an older couple (probably late 60's or so) and the wife was half blitzed and ranting on about "them blacks coming up from France" and the poor husband just shaking his head and trying to calm her down. I guess France was kicking out a lot of it's trash and Ireland had fairly lax immigration laws and there were some people there not really thrilled about it.

Well, I was going to mention the French and Algerians...but I didn't want to go there.

As for Northern and Eastern Europe, I'm thinking more Scandinavia and places like the Ukraine, where you have 0.3% of the population that isn't white, and whenever a person of color shows up, they tend to be put on the news as the "Reason why the country is falling apart."


...yeah, this speaks to me of a populace that is several decades behind.

You're missing the point that the OP's premise is just wrong. There are obviously some racists in the United States. The fact that we make a big deal out of it actually makes us less racist than these other countries that don't even start to address it (most of Europe and Asia).

Every race has people that are racists against others. It's more documented and exposed when a particular race has a majority and can actually use racism to oppress another. The US is also more open about its racist history and doesn't try to hide it like European and Asian countries.

african americans are american, drive cars, own mobile phones, have citizenship, houses etc.
while some asylum seekers are foreigners without a permit who came here illegally, and they can't get the fact that abundance doesn't mean stuff is free because they're from an entirely different place and they think that everyone is a millionare with 3 cars and a pool.
That does make a difference and you can see it has nothing to do with race.
There is no racism against asians.
Some italians, french and germans are victims of discrimination and get some of the heat too so it's absolutely not race-based.
Italians are getting more hate from the right-wing press than anyone else.

I am white and from the UK. I live in London, which is very multi-cultural. All the areas are mixed and there is no segregation.

My partner is Black and most of my friends are from different ethnic backgrounds. It is not perfect, however compared to some parts of America, we are very lucky.

America is a product of it's past. It was built on slavery and oppression. In London, we had the wind rush era after the war, where many e.g. Caribbeans and Indians come to re-built the country. They were more of a minority. It has taken time for everyone to integrate and there were problems. There still are some today, but generally the UK is very tolerant.

You will see plenty of mixed race couples and there are no segregated areas either. It makes me sad to see that some parts of American are segregated...they will never know what it is like to experience a different way of life. I embrace people from all races, I have Black people in my family too. I see people as people, appreciate and celebrate our differences...to not hate but to love yourself and have love for your people.

Agreed, I was SHOCKED when I went to Poland few years back. So much racism still around, in a country that has been abused by racist more than just about any other.

really sad....I was ashamed to be Polish/ or even be there at times.
