I actually need to put on a few pounds. Lately, I've been craving cheez-its, like any good member of society would.

I'm not fat. I train 10x a week and hope to make the Olympic team for 2012 . If not at least I'll be pretty monsterous and competiting in some international competitions

My friend has dropped 45lbs in a little over 5months. His secret? Training hard in Olympic style weightlifting and eating better. He use to eat such junk...he does no cv at all though but he is still losing weight.

For me it is a combination of a lot of things.

I'm a little lazy. When I do have free time I like to spend it with my wife, my family, or relaxing. It comes down to priorities I guess, and I don't mind being 20lbs overweight.

I'm very, very busy. In addition to my job I'm on the executive board of a non-profit organization and very active in my church. Time is at a premium, and often I am running from one meeting to another.

Genetics play a small role, I gain weight very easily and have to work hard to keep it off.

Ever since I got hurt in 03, I've put on a few lbs here and there. (I was 6'1 and ~215 lbs before I got hurt) With a bad knee and 3 blown disks in the back, even walking is painful. PLUS, I'm married to a great cook, and fabluous baker, so we tend to eat well. (not always healthy foods, but well) When I had my knee surgery 02/04, I've porked up about 50 lbs...and now resemble Jabba the Hut...Hmm, Boomer the Hut?
I keep fighting with my disability insurance company to get me into a gym or physical therapy, and it's been recommended by my doctors and their doctors, but they keep dragging their feet on it...

Ah, just got back from the gym after not going for two months.

I forgot how great it feels. I had a routine going for a while and then i feel asleep on my arm and my radial nerve died. Which has been sweet.

Go exercise fatties.

sorry to hear about your injury... you're probably the only person here with an excuse. you can still do isolation exercises that don't stress the spine or legs...

I voted other:

I'm about 20 lbs overweight (6ft 195lbs), excercise regularly and eat quite healthy when not drinking.

However, I love beer. Bar food or grabbing something after drinking usually hurts as well. I've tried to cut back on bar food and eating out as much as possible lately and I'm slowly loosing weight.

If I picked up a weight lifting routine I am sure I'd loose weight even quicker, but between classes (senior math major) and work...it's just so much easier to hop on an exercise bike and do 12-15 miles or rowing machine for about 6300m in 30min

p.s. Everybody tells me I'm not fat, but I think/have always thought I am. I actually hate it haha, I wish people would tell me I'm fat, would make me workout a little bit harder : P

I've lost almost 30 pounds over the last 18 months.

I was traveling a lot, eating like crap, drinking far too much, and not exercising in the least.

I cut my drinking down from 3 beers a night to 1, started eating much better, and actively counted my calories. I would shoot for around 1800 and space it out over 5-6 mini meals.

I also started walking a few miles at night, 3-4 days a week. I was consistenly losing 1-1.5 pounds a week.

I actually was running every day for about 2 months, but that was 2 months ago. I've been too busy with work, grad school, and projects around the house to put in that extra hour per day. Plus, it's gotten colder outside....so I'm looking forward to the end of the semester in another month... Then at least I'll have an extra 10 hours to work out and play bf2 again until January.

Edit: BTW...I'm 6'4" and 230. I was down to 220 2 months ago. It doesn't take me long to health it up and lose the gut, even though it is a lot of work and dieting.

I'm lazy and I like to eat tasty food. Tasty not necessarily meaning greasy and calorie laden-- just not really healthy food.

I can get into an exercise routine for awhile, but I always end up falling out of it for a few weeks. I need to start doing things that I don't mind doing daily again.

But meh, I'm pretty happy with myself as I am. I wouldn't mind losing 20 pounds, but I think as long as I don't gain an extra 15 pounds, I'm pretty happy with where I am.

This is probably the most recent picture I have of myself.

One word.
Beer.

It doesn't really matter because girls still find me attractive but it would be nice to walk around with no shirt at the beach in the summer with pride.

Oh man I hear ya. I'm also 6'1'' and during my big drinking years in college I was up to 230. I am finally down to 200 even...I've gotta say my lower back is thanking me for it!

I think I'm gonna aim as my first goal to start drinking only diet sodas when I drink sodas and also try to drink water often.

Next goal is to get myself up at least 30 minutes early each morning and go running.

Next goal is to learn to cook so I can stop eating fast food so often since I get tired of those healthy choice style foods.

running every day = not very good (impact exercise)
diet sodas = bad (the splenda/etc checmical)

strength training = the best way! fruit smoothies with protein = even better.

get the book in my top post, man

The running every day thing depends entirely on the person and family history. I know that my dad has run about 10 miles every day since he was 20 or so and is now well into his 60s and going strong. At this point he's showing absolutely no signs of wear and tear (and he would know, he's a doctor).

Splenda and other fake sugars are not BAD for you. They only are shown to cause problems when one does not eat any carbs at all...in those cases thats when the body goes into hyper-storage mode and you store any bit of sugar you can. Diet soda is a great way to drop a few LBs. Its DEFINITELY better for you than regular.

I was once fat, 250 pounds at 5'8". I worked my way down to my current weight of 160. I didn't even really exercise or anything. I just stopped eating so poorly, replaced soft drinks with water, and got off my butt a little more often and the fat just melted off. I got fat because I got lazy, just worked at the computer all day. All the constant sitting and snacking, soft drinks and coffee.

Why would you want to drink that crap though? There are better sources of caffeine and better stimulants to boot. Even if they were completey safe I wouldn't drink diet drinks because they taste like ass.
I occasionally have a soda, drink alcohol fairly often and drink a gallon and a half of water daily.

I was doing pretty well with the weight loss till college started. School just makes me not want to exercise.

I was at my physical peak about half way through medical school. Since then Ive had a fairly busy schedule and havent been able to keep up with my exercise. Im not fat by any means, (5'6" 155), but I could lose about 10 pounds around the belly.

I think I count as underweight. Being able to forget to eat probably helps. I don't seem to feel "hungry" very often. I know I've forgotten to eat when my hands start shaking like 6-7hrs after I ate last.
