it is hard for someone to understand if they have never had a problem with their weight.

OP, I am somewhat overweight (6' 225 lbs). Do you know what it feels like to eat a normal portioned meal and still be hungry? If this has happened to you, consider that being the case every day of your life. Would your natural instinct tell you to eat more? Would your appetite win over your will? Consider this and you will have your answer.

I haven't been exercising enough lately. I've only been getting to the gym once or twice a week, and because of my knee injury I haven't been able to run outside since June.

But, I'm still approximately 25 lbs lighter than I was when I graduated high school (I'm 220 now and 27 years old), so I'm pretty happy.

One word.
Beer.

It doesn't really matter because girls still find me attractive but it would be nice to walk around with no shirt at the beach in the summer with pride.

Are you posting about me cause that's pretty spooky?

lol This also explains me perfectly as well.

I think the poll needs another choice!

I eat pretty good...eat way less than I used to, work out 3 times a week...but for whatever reason i just have a slow metabolism or something, my weight doesn't do much but stay the same, cut out lots of carbs, cut my servings down, drink like 80oz of water a day while at work instead of eating something...dunno, but i try that counts right?

^^very true

I've lost about 20 pounds in the past 2-3 months just by restricting my calorie intake to 1500/day. It's not easy, but it helps with motivation when you can finally see some noticeable progress in the mirror. Overall I'm down about 40-45 pounds from August 2005...still got a ways to go though.

Edit: I'm 5'7" and 172lbs. right now if anyone cares.

I used to have the same problem. I would try to eat less food, but I would still be hungry, so I ate even more food.

What helped me overcome this was exercise. When I first started seriously exercising, I would eat the same, but I would lose a little weight due to the exercise. When I started hitting my plateau, I started cutting back on the amount of food that I ate to lose even more. Now I can be full off of smaller portions, so I don't even have the desire to "pig out" anymore. It's probably been 4-5 months since I've gone to a buffet restaurant.

Exercising and eating right is a lifestyle change. It isn't a temporary diet you go on, get to your desired weight, and go back to doing what you want. It took me a while to realize that myself, but the results are definitely worth it. Not only on how I look, but how I feel also.

Do you know what it's like to never feel hungry... ever, knowing that eating is key to remaining bodily and gastrointestinal health?
I'd actually probably be at a really great weight if my hunger didn't kick in at midnight with me conveniently driving by Taco Bell.

Thank god for Adderall...and protein shakes.

Ok, screw my never damage, even with only half my left wrist strength, I haven't been for two months and it's getting to me. I'm going to the god damn gym right now.

Peace fellas. Hope you can stop being so fat.
This summer I am going to have a freaking 6 pack.

I've lost 22 lbs since September and now I am in the normal range for my BMI. I would like to lose another 8-10 lbs before I am done, and I think I should be able to do that before Christmas.

See, and that's the problem. I barely eat right now (maybe once a day, usually breakfast), and so my weight is steady. I don't want a lifestyle change, it's too much work and effort, and there's still no guarantee I'll feel any better about myself. I just need something to make me lose about 30lb so that i can just do what I do right now and maintain that lower weight. But I know it's not gonna happen, that'd be too easy. And nothing is ever easy. So here I am, overweight.

I exercise plenty (4 days a week, 30+ min each time) but I loooove my food. Chips, salsa and beer are the worst, but set a half rack of ribs in front of me and I want the other half as well (mmmm ribs....). I also work with people who have a pot luck every friday and a couple of them are excellent cooks.

I feel the same way. I'm not embarrassed, but a nice six pack wouldn't hurt. Though that could be a genetic impossibility. (6'0" 190lbs)

I used to be pretty darn skinny in high school. 95lbs, 5'5. Since the last year of high school, I had a car and a job, so I got to eat out pretty much everyday. I used to try to bulk up at the gym for a few years, but I got lazy lately and haven't gone in about 18 months. Fast forward 3 years, and I'm 140lbs now with a bit of a gut. If it weren't for the gut, I'm pretty in shape now.

Believe me, I know how you feel. I just have plenty of things that motivate me to be healthy (i.e. dad is 53 and 6'1" ~340 lbs, brother is 19 and 6'5" ~325 lbs). I see how they struggle and I don't want to end up like that.

Thanks to that motivation, I'm 23 @ 6'2" 195 lbs, I go to the gym 5 days a week and eat healthy. I hope to stick with it indefinitely.
